East on 290, left on 21, proceed east til you get to Nac.
Seem like it takes forever because of all the little towns you have to go through.

the exact reason i dont search mapquest or any other may engine for any trip i go on.

thanks for the info guys

that's a ***** of a drive, hope you have someone good looking waiting for you to make it worthwhile.

I used to hunt out of Ft. Stockton, and that drive drove me nuts, I give you El Pasoans props.

that drive is MUCH longer than 3 hours, closer to 4-4.5

I used to make that trip all the time. My first year, I went to SFA, and all my friends were in Austin. Then I transferred to UT, and my brother went to Nac.

Some of my drives over the past 5-6 years or so:

Midland to Des Moines, Iowa and back.

Austin to Salisbury, North Carolina

Austin to Arizona and back.

Austin to Lubbock and back.

North Carolina to Minnesota.

Minnesota to Texas.

Austin to "midstate" New York and back.

Austin to New Orleans and back a couple times.

Not to mention Austin-Midland many times, Austin-South Padre multiple times, and other roadtrips I am probably forgetting.

That drive is not bad at all compared to some of those.

worst drive I did:

Washington, DC to Daytona Beach, Florida and back for spring break this year.

The drive there went alot faster for some reason, but 13 hours one way is a long *** time to be in a rental car no matter how you slice it.

For my first post of all time, i have to agree about the drive to El paso. I went last July for my best friends wedding. My car's water pump broke about 8pm outside Ft. Stockton. I was lucky enough to get to the Walmart there before it closed at 9. I thought my coolant was leaking so all I could do was refill it. It took me 12 hours to get to EP finally at 2 am.

Austin to Omaha and back
drive up there wonderful, couldn't wait to get there
drive back sucked, it was in 2000 and we went 2 and BBQ

I did Davis, California to Lawrence, Kansas non-stop one night after working all day. I think I actually fell asleep and died somewhere in Utah.

Knoxville is far as ****. Estimate a million hours or so. I passed through Knoxville on the way to North Cack and did not enjoy the congestion on the interstate near Knoxville. You can actually make it to Knoxville in a day if you leave early.

I drove the dogs up to Nashville when we moved here from Austin -- took at least 15 hours straight thru (I stopped many times for the dogs). Knoxville is another 3+ hours from Nashville -- PLUS you lose an hour to the time change. (ET starts just west of Knoxville)
