Looking at getting a Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR6, has great reviews, etc..The 52W4100 is about $1,000 cheaper so I'm trying to figure out why. Our tv will be in a bright room and I read the XBR6 has the best "anti-reflection", glare, whatever...

Any opinions on either?

the W- series (cheaper one) is the entry level. the xbr is upper level, might be top.

i have 3 sony bravia lcd's, 26, 40, and 46. *bought in '07. the 46 is the xbr version and the other 2 are just the bottom line. 26 and 46 are in rooms with lots of windows. no problems with glare. i can't comment much on the color (i'm basically colorblind), but picture quality is great.

one thing, my 46 is the one with the silver speaker covers and clear around with the silver frame. i changed the speaker covers to mat black. anyway, my point is, the next model and the current one you're looking at have a shiny finish around the outside. i'd make sure you check it out in person before buying. seems like that might reflect some of the glare.

I have that exact tv and I love it. We had a 52 inch Samsung DLP, but we didnt like the fact that DLPs cant be watched from the side when we would cook or what not in the kitchen. We bought this badboy and couldnt be happier.

The screen is bright and no glare. If you are putting it in a bright room, then you wont have any problems. I would definately buy this again if I had to. We are putting it up on the wall this weekend, so I cant wait to do that. IMO you cant go wrong with this one. The only complaint that I have is that on ESPN, at the bottom where they do their scroll, sometimes it starts blurry, but then jumps to clear. I found out that if I switch the DISH HD receiver to 720, then it corrects the problem, but I dont mind it too much and keep it on 1080.

I dont have blu ray yet, so I cant comment on that, but I cant see it not looking rediculous on this tv. Also, the speakers that come with the tv are way above average. Most of the time we just use the tv instead of our stereo surround sound. Some of that has to do with our kids are trying to sleep, but we do it anyways mostly...except for games.

have a 32" KDL from '07 and it's great. bought it because of the great reviews in ambient light.

now I saw the XBR7 today, so maybe that's the one to go with. ha. television technology changes weekly so it's a crap shoot I think.

The tv's we've talked about in this thread range from $1,700-3,000, from what I've seen.

Ok so when you go from the W series to the XBR6, you get a 10bit panel, Live color creation which allows for more accurate color and a better black level, a usb port, and a network connection to the unit. The xbr also give a little better audio system to it. When you do go to the xbr7 you go to a 240hz refresh rate tv instead of a 120hz. I don't see a huge difference between the 6 and 7 but do see if from the w to the xbr6. I don't see gaining anything on a better glare screen from one set to the other.
If you are in austin look me up and let me see what I can do for you deal wise.
