if any of our top recruits begin to second think their decision to come to Texas after this season?? Or, do you think it may motivate them to think they can come in and turn this team around??

Texas has some of the finest training facilities around, it is an urban campus with 6th street and numerous honeys abounding, and Texas offers a nice array of top flight academic programs. I honestly can't see one down year that is, at least superficially, attributable to the lack of a point guard, preventing anyone from coming. Despite the inane firerickbarnes.com, he does have our program at the perenial top 20 stage. My question has always been, can we do even better? But no-one can answer that. People love to bash Penders and compare the two coaches. But Penders had two years in the Big 12, and we made the Sweet Sixteen in one of those. Texas has a lot of advantages to offer either a kid or a coach. The only thing we lack is fan passion. This season will not convince a kid to go elsewhere. Barnes has kept us playing at a fast pace, which is what the kids want, even though this yer's team doesn't excel at that strategy.

If anything, it reinforces their commit. They know they can come in here and start and play some significant minutes. There are a lot of holes on this team to fill.

This team -- in successive seasons -- lost Kevin Durant and DJ Augustine. HUGE losses.

So this year's effort gets an excuse.

Still, when players leave early it crushes my spirit as a fan.

Maybe top players want to come here to be a part of Turnstile U. ??

Durant, as much as he loves UT, never was a good candidate to do more than one year.

Augustin did leave earlier than most folks thought, but if you're going in the lottery, there's no reason to stay, especially at his size.

James was thought to have the potential to be an early out last year, and he never hesitated to stay.

It hurts in terms of competing on a national level, but in terms of the program? I don't see a ton to worry about.

I think high school players understand that you need a point guard to compete in the NCAAs. Look at Duke and their struggles with Paulus and Smith. Lawson and Teague chewed them up.

This team has no McD AAs on it. It's just flat-out not as talented as some of our other teams due to folks leaving early. These kids know they have a great chance for playing time coming in.
