Anybody seen an NCAA game in a football stadium?

My wife is a Baylor grad and wants to go to the games in Houston this weekend. My thought is that unless you're in the lower level, the view won't be worth the price.

I'm looking for input on the view/atmosphere since I've never seen a basketball game in a football stadium before. Should I convince her to just watch it in a bar?

I saw the Horns play at the Alamodome. That was the old way where the court was perpendicular to the football field. It was like a normal basketball stadium. I'm guessing Reliant this weekend will have the court right on top of the football field. You're probably right about the view...

Saw Texas at Reliant in 08?....whenever we beat Stanford and lost to Memphis. It wasn't bad. I paid $90 for 2 seats about 40 rows up from center...the seats were too flat..once one person in front stood up, everyone had to stand up.

For the Sunday game against Memphis I was in row one of the Club Level....it was pretty far from the court, but still manageable.

I don't know how people were sitting in the upper levels. F that.

Saw the Elite 8 in 03 at the Alamodome, Final Four that same year in Superdome and Sweet Sixteen in 04 in Georgia Dome. The Alamodome and Georgia Dome were cut in half with the court in an end zone so both werent that bad, the Superdome though was not cut in half and the court was in the field. Fortunately my seats were near the court so the experience was OK. Not sure how I would have felt though if my seats were on the other side a good 60 plus yards from the court. Still it is a great experience to see your team in a late round NCAA game and even if the seats are crap you get to have the feel of being there.

I sat a couple of rows form the last row in the lower deck at Reliant in 2008...

We were pretty excited to be in the lower deck. We should not have been exctied...

We watched 85% of the game on the jumbo-tron. could not see the floor very well. Not worth it - pains me... but I would not do it again.

Caveat - if you are doing it to drink with your pals and don't care about good seats... then pay just enough to get inside the stadium and enjoy the atmosphere.

Don't listen to these guys. Take your wife and your binoculars to the game. We went to Reliant a couple of years ago to watch the Horns. We were fairly far from the court, but we could see the action fine and the excitement is worth it; the games are fun. Baylor has never made it that far. No telling when they will get back, and if they do, it won't be in Houston. Have fun.

We went to the Alamodome when T.J. Ford and the Horns beat UConn and Michigan State. We were in the upper part of the lower deck. The seats sucked but the crowd was great. One thing to consider is after the first game almost 1/2 the crowd leaves and opens up a lot of closer seats if you are ballsy enough to go get them.

We also went to Reliant when Texas played Memphis. Memphis was damn good. Reliant is substantially bigger than the Alamodome. I wouldn't go unless you are within the inner half of the diameter around the court.

Well decision made . . . the wife got two free tickets in the lowers mid-court for tonight and two free for Sunday's game in a suite. So yeah, we're going to go. Thanks for all the input, now I just have to decide if I'm wearing orange . . .
