Anybody know a lot about ranges?

We are remodeling our kitchen and I’m having a hard time deciding whether to get the Bosch dual fuel range for ~$2300, or upgrade to a Thermador for a lot more coin. Thermador makes an all gas model for ~$3500, and a dual fuel for ~$4300. The Thermador is sexier, but a) is it worth the extra coin and b) is there really a difference between a nat gas convection oven and dual fuel?

Any advice appreciated.

Investigated this a while ago.

Dual fuel didn't excite me very much. It might heat your oven a little faster, and it does the self-cleaning thing, but I doubt your food will come out different at all.

My sister has the dual fuel Thermador. It has a nice super-low simmer feature, where the burner will switch on and off every 30 seconds or so. But because it has computer parts, any time the range is in use, there's a somewhat loud fan running.

I ended up getting a Blue Star. It doesn't have a motherboard (why would you put computer parts in a freaking stove?

This seems to be a common source of range problems). The main cooking benefit is the burners are awesome. If you want to sear the **** out of something, this kind of high-end stove is the way to go. Ideal for wok cooking, since you can remove the grate and place your wok just above the flames. Also liked how you could easily take the whole top area apart. It would be simple if you wanted to, say rearrange the burners.

But in the end, you're paying mostly for looks. I like to cook, so this is the one item I splurged on. I'm sure you'd be happy with the Bosch.

I have a 36" Wolf, duel fuel, 4 burners and grill. Love it. Highly recommend the grill if you have a good hood and want to take grilling inside. Gas oven will be fine for you if you do not broil much. I broil alot so went with duel fuel for better broiling. Gas broiling sucks even on 8k range.
