between Barnes and Hamilton? I assumed it was Barnes asking Hamilton what he was thinking giving the ball to the worst free throw shooter on the team and Hamilton pleasantly explaining why what he did was the right move at the time.

We've now had a Barnes-Hamilton dust up preceded earlier by a Barnes-Brown confrontation. Elsewhere KSU's Martin got into it with one of his phenoms and Calipari recently got into it with one of his.

What's the deal...?

kids that can't handle criticism because they have been coddled their whole lives.

Ditto on the coddling. I've seen 11-year-olds ***** that they weren't getting the ball enough.

I think this is a non-issue. Hamilton was probably amped up at the time, but he's going to watch the film and see he has the ball in his hands, has Brown available, and he chooses to put the ball into the wrong hands. Much easier to get over it when you see you're coach was 100% correct.

Brown wasn't open at all and it's partially his fault that the play happened in the first place. Hamilton is at fault for picking up the ball but I don't blame him for trying to get the ball out before a 5 second violation. Thompson was the only player available and Barnes had no business getting that upset at that juncture of the game. He should have waited till it was over instead of just exploding on him when the game was technically still in doubt. That didn't help at all. Has nothing to do with being coddled. I'm sure Barnes said some pretty harsh stuff considering Hamilton responded, "Don't say that to me." Wrong place, wrong time to go Frank Martin after such a great performance and comeback by your team.

Hamilton was more upset with Barnes hitting him in the chest as you could easily see Hamilton ask Barnes, "What are you doing?" and "Why did you hit me like that?"

Barnes went nuclear and it was unnecessary and poor judgement on his part. Barnes is a fine coach, but he is not perfect.

Like the poster above said, there is a better way, time and place to deal with that particular play.

I'll write this one down to emotions running high in the "heat of the moment'. Barnes looked like he was white-knuckling pretty bad at the end of the game. Hopefully, they talked about this and put it behind them.

Barnes must not have been too upset because he left Hamilton in the game. He may have been pissed about the play, but realized he overreacted, or he would have pulled him.

I watched the game and also replayed it on DVR. I was lost on what was going on until my morning radio fix.

For me, Barnes would have gotten very white knuckle at the prospects of winning. Anytime you are on the verge of closing out a big win -- like, a Grand Slam Tennis final, or pitching a championship game and you're three outs.. two.. or one from winning -- it can be more anxious and stomach-turmoil than if you're behind and trying to pull it out.

You're minutes from snapping the longest (current) home court streak -- in that field house of all places -- and every detail of rock solid fundamental play becomes amplified a thousand times in the eyes of a coach that lives and dies by fundamentals.

Hoosiers... pass the ball X-times before a shot ... or we'll play with just 4 players if we have to. That kind of insistence.

But maybe it's a good game experience. Because if they are in the Final Four, or about to win to get to the Final Four -- it will be that intense. And may happen in a couple of months.

How would you describe Jordan Hamilton? For me, a summary would include the following:

1) A gifted athlete who can score from anywhere on the floor.
2) An exceptional rebounder relative to his height and position.
3) A formerly selfish player who has learned the value of playing for the team rather than for himself.
4) Perhaps the most talented member of the team, yet one who suffers from fantastic lapses of concentration and, occasionally, composure.

Given No.4, and given the fact that Jordan had just passed the ball to a teammate who shoots less than 50 percent from the foul line while another teammate who shoots more than 80 percent was running free toward him, is it that really that inconceivable that Barnes would be less than pleased?

I don't know if Coach's actions were right or wrong--I don't know what he or Jordan said--but I do know that Jordan has a habit of taking mental vacations, so it would seem to me that Rick Barnes is certainly within his right--his duty--as a coach to bring this habit to Jordan's attention in hopes of curbing it.

Agreed with all your comments Gem. Beyond mental lapses or bad decisions...he is also just out of control at times. But I guess sometimes it pays off as he's unpredictable.

The thing that's always bugged me with Barnes is that, regardless of the game, he's usually sitting in his chair showing no emotion. I think when he does this and bottles it up inside it's easy to let it come out or blow up at the wrong times.
