Any way Dex leaves

early?

I have no idea where he would get drafted, or even if he would, but if you don't think he could play backup center in the league right now with limited minutes and develop into something more then I think you are absolutely crazy.

so, any way he leaves early?

Regardless of rumors etc, I'm sure Damion is gone. I'll miss him as his positives outweighed his negatives and he was a really good player for us.

Him at the 4 next year with Dex at the 5 and talent on the perimeter coming in has me drooling, so I doubt it happens.

IMO , Dex tests the waters at the NBA camps and indivudual workouts, just because he is hugh and has some good footwork he will get a good look at by the scouts and General Managers. Low 1st round pick /early second round.

James will do well in all the physical areas of camp and indivudual work out , he has the physical assets to go to the NBA.
He lacks the BB IQ and his handle is weak at best , estimate is middle / late 2nd round at this point.

Both may return, both may be selected if they go. Both could not be selected, Europe is the next best thing that they both could do well.
If both stay( ?) we will have a legit top 5 team and a high % for a very deep MM run, maybe even a F4 team, if RB plays to the players hugh ability and BB IQ and does not ripe their nuts out, must keep their confidence high, BB has to be fun.

Dex has said he's not even thinking about the draft, supposedly. Both come back and we go to the Elite Eight at worst, IMO. There are grumblings that all of Wake's big three may come back, in which case they would be number one...UNLESS Ellington and Lawson both come back, then UNC would be numero uno. Nova will be top 5 and KU also. Memphis will be the most talented team in history next year, though they'll be young, and USC will be almost as talented if Derozan comes back. Cuse will be great if Flynn comes back...big IF. Duke will be decent as always, and Michigan State will be highly ranked preseason as well.

Next year will be so much more fun as the level of hoops across the country should be astonishingly higher than the disappointment that was this year. UT should have one of its better teams, but this will be as tough a year in both the Big 12 and nation as we've seen in a while. I'm looking forward to an awesome season

It'll be interesting to see what happens at KU. After three years, Collins supposedly is ready to go.

And there was a feature in the KC paper on Friday. Cole Aldrich's father is a construction worker who hasn't worked in months. His parents have told him not to make his decision on staying in school with them in mind, but I don't know how a kid puts that out of his mind.

As I see it, it's unlikely that he gets drafted - it's pretty rare that you're going to use a draft pick on a project, and let's be clear, Dex is a project at this point for the NBA. He has a lot of work to do yet. I think that foray into drafting Euro stars high and watching them sit on the bench may have cured a lot of teams of the notion of drafting now a guy who may be a star in 5 years.

I think it's very possible that Dex could improve that status with another year of work. So I really don't see a down side to him staying another year except for the old "he could get hurt" argument. I just don't buy that - you can get hurt falling down the stairs too, things happen. I think the opportunities he has in a senior year far outweigh the negatives - but then, it's not my decision to make.

If Memphis gets John Wall, as I suspect they will, I can't imagine not ranking them #1. Maybe it won't happen because of all the freshmen, but jeez louise that will be a stacked team.

I would think he may test the waters, however it would be a horrible decision if he sticks with it.

He is still a year away from even sniffing the late 1st/early 2nd. He still has to work on his conditioning and consistancy, in addition to his game. He also seems to lack that mean streak that most guys his size are supposed to have.

No slight to the kid, but i really dont think he has the potential to be an NBAer. He may be a great as a collegiate player, but i just dont see him contributing at the next level.

I feel bad for James, his stock will be no higher this year than last. And it may go down next year. He definately has the athleticism and work ethic to play at the next level, but he just needs to work on his ball skills, which is something he will not get the oppurtunity to show in this offense.

I REALLY REALLY feel bad for Conner. He was on the NBA radar by the end of last season, all to fall completely off this year. However, after reading the NY times article, i really dont think it will bother him much since he seems to have a very successful career ahead of him in business.

Listen, if Dex even comes close to leaving... or, if this Longhorn program cannot, just simply cannot stop this insane nonsense of going to the NBA early...

Here's a plan. Let them all leave and let's play freshmen every year.

No reason to worry about things that are out of our control. Dex should come back and have a great senior year then get drafted. I would love for James to come back but he has to do what he has to do.

I have seen this mentioned a few times on here with no one really addressing it, but aren't we going to have too many ships next year. Looking at the AAs article this morning and just counting the players on the roster and the players coming in, I counted 14 players. This assumes Pittman and James both come back. And this does not include J'Covan. Am I crazy or is that two too many ships?

You are not crazy. Somebody would have to transfer or go pro. Two somebody's if J'Covan is to make it in. As much money as John Lucas has, he should just pay for his son's enrollment

You guys know where I stand on this. I've been saying before the year started that Dex would have the opportunity to go pro. The NBA largely drafts on potential and Dex has loads of it (no pun intended). At this point, I'd expect that he'd get drafted higher than Damian - again on upside potential.

All that said, I hope he comes back. He could have a monster year. (Pun intended).

Dex is not ready as his game vs. Duke showed as well as the KU matchup vs. that big guy. He need to work on his quick second jump and lose another 20lbs at least.

does the nba have combines like football?

Yes, the NBA has the camps where the players run drills and play in scrimmages. It is mainly for guys outside the lottery. Dex and James would likely attend. I belive you can attend and participate and not declare, but someone correct me if I am wrong.

No, you declare, participate, and then decide if you want to pull your name from the draft or not.

You absolutely have to declare in order to participate, though.

It used to be kids had to pay their own way to any team workouts, or to the group events. I thought maybe there had been a little change in that, where teams could pay for individual workouts with players (they do anyway), and the NCAA would allow it, and not penalize the kid if he chose to return to school.

This was what put PJ Tucker in a bind. His family couldn't really afford to pay for him to travel around the country working out for various NBA teams, so he felt forced to stay in the draft simply for financial reasons.

Maybe it's still that way, and my memory is failing me, but I thought there was some kind of rule change in that regard.

Aside from the fact that he could really benefit from another year with Todd Wright, Dex still looks too much like a kid having fun in Austin to leave. Or course $$ can have an impact on the ultimate decision, but I would be very surprised if he doesn't return for his senior year.

Draftexpress.com has moved Damion James out of the 30th spot in the first round to somewhere in the second round. If that is accurate, that might suggest he's more likely to come back.

OT - Willie Warren has been moved up to #7. Seems like he may be gone.

SL Express, I sure hope you are correct. But a lot of Sooners seem to be content to turn down certain draft money to stay up there in Norman. Sammy Bradford knows that he's losing his entire offensive line and that, after this year, the NFL will institute a hard roookie salary scale, which will have a disproportionate effect on QBs (in the past Brady Quinn got paid much better than his 21 draft slot or whatever). But Bradford looked at all that and chose to head back to school. Makes me go hmmmmm. Given that odd love for Norman, I sure hope Willie Warren heads off to the NBA. For that matter, I hope Blake Griffin is gone. But nothing will surprise me. Warren is the second coming of Joe Dumars, of that I'm sure. But somehow pro money doesn't mean as much to OU athletes lately. And given history I have a view on that, but it's merely speculation, nothing more.

what makes Damion James an NBA prospect? At his size he doesn't do anything exceptionally well and there are many guys in the world at 6'9" who do everything better. an NBA prospect makes major plays in heated competition and I just don't see that from DJ.

I don't know, athletic guys that are 6'7" and can shoot don't exactly grow on trees. And it's not like he's a projected lottery pick or anything.

Good to see Dex getting around 30 minutes a game at times late in the year. With another off-season of conditioning he could really be a force next season.

yes, can you picture a 10-15 pounds lighter Pittman playing 35 minutes a game! wow! I think he could/should approach 20 points, 10 rebounds a game.
