Any Vonnage customers out there...?

I'm thinking about going with this VOIP service. I've had a very strong endorsement from my brother-in-law (outside of some issues getting his service started).

Any thoughts...?

only one "n" in it, but yes it's great.

checking call logs and hearing voicemail online is wonderful. low price is tremendous. service has been great 99% of the time with only a couple small hiccups.

you going to give bro-in-law the referral or you want to hook me up?

I've had it for 2 weeks. I like it, 25 bucks a month long distance included instead of 60+ bucks plus long distance. Only down side is that some of the cool SBC features like call blocking and privacy manager aren't available, but I can live without them if I have to.

I heard 911 is an add on and in a highly publicized case in sugarland, someone died because they couldn't call 911 with these things.

That is unacceptable imo.

it's only an "add on" to the extent that you have to activate it. it doesn't cost more though and is easy to do.

i also recommend vonage. i have had them for about a year and it works great on road runner. their downfall is their tech support staff though. often it takes weeks to resolve technical issues, and you also spend a lot of time on hold when you call them too. i wanted to swap my PRIMARY number (in indiana) with my VIRTUAL number (austin) because i moved here but they say it can't be done...blah.

oh well, anything's better than SBC.

sure can't. i've asked them about it 3 different times and they are stubborn ignorant little ********. so every time i call a friend they're like "what is area code 317?!?"

i also suggested them to add some kind of privacy manager service to block *67 callers. but they don't wanna do that either.

Because it does not go to the emergency line, but another line at the apprpriate local 911 center. I assume there is some liability to the company that they must disclose this fact.

Well, if you don't know your own address, then you shouldn't be left alone.

I know there are situations when a babysitter, etc. might be at your home with your children, but then you should have this information posted for her...address, your cell phone #'s, grandma's #, etc. If you drop off your kids with a 12 year old girl and don't give her any help / information in case of an emergency, you might as well leave your kids home alone.

"if you don't know your own address, then you shouldn't be left
alone"

true in most cases. but in some critical moment, someone won't be able
to give their address, for whatever reason, say a heartattack or
seizure.

people have taken 911 service for granted for the way it has always
worked. the voip emeregency method is a little less reliable. i
think it is a valid concern for some.

I've had Vonage for 3-4 months now. I'm using it on my DSL line. I get interference on the line when I'm surfing/downloading and talking on the Vonage line. My pet theory is that cable lines don't have this problem. It's good, not great.

How hard is it to cancel verizon so I can switch to vonage or TW? I saw vonage says it takes 20 days before your number can be switched..is that true?

how do you activate the 911 service?

Is voicemail free and the email service to email your messages?

if so seems like a great deal for 25 bucks

I have not ported a # so I can't help you there. They e-mail you when you have a voice mail, which you can check on the website for free.

I dont believe so, my previous verizon service was all under one line.....but as a part of vonage setup you have to go outside to the little box where verizon s wires meet up with your house wires and undo all of it...i did this and i guess somehow that seperates some of the jacks from the others....SOB...
