i want to be able to convert mpg and wmv files etc to something that will play in quicktime pro like avi. there are tons of them for windows like blaze media pro etc but i cant really find one for mac. any suggestions? it doesnt have to be freeware.
Sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. FFmpeg is somewhat complicated to setup. I set it up a while ago, so I will do the best that I can.
When you first open the program click cancel when it asks you to download the ffmpeg compenents. Copy and paste the web addresses for the components and download them to your desktop (it may put them in the correct location.)
After they are downloaded click locate and browse the mac to find them. After you have located them if they have not been moved already then it should move them to the correct folders.
After that open the program and select the file that you want to convert and select the format that you want to use. The program will genereate a file name that is pretty close to the same with ff.(whatever format you choose.)
I thought this was pretty difficult as well. Now that I look back at the folder make sure to read the first page or two of the readme file as well as the other material. Let me know if I can help. The final piece of advice if none of this works go to the apple discussion forums and ask some questions people on there are smart and helpful.
