Any Updates on Recruits?

Nope.

I am interested to see how McDonald's departure affects UT's recruitment of Devin Ebanks. Tyreke Evans announces in 9 days.

And, of course, we have to find out what DJ and Damion James' eventual plans are regarding the NBA.

Devin Ebanks supposedly will visit on May 9, making Texas the last school visited. He'll go to West Virginia, Memphis, and Rutgers before he comes to Austin. Not sure if being last is a good thing, in this case.

Rumors abound that Tyreke Evans is going to Memphis. This has been speculated ad infinitum. Will announce on April 16, after the Nike Hoops Summit (which is the best All-Star game due to its competitive, US vs World nature).

Scotty Hopson, as has already been reported here, has gone with Tennessee. No idea about Jeff Taylor.

By the way, there is at least a mild rumor that the Knicks and Donnie Walsh will look at John Calipari for the head coaching job (once Isiah is summarily dismissed). This all has ties, of course, to the omnipresent Worldwide Wes. If that's the case, I hope it happens quickly enough to swing Evans and Ebanks our way. One can only wish.

I'd rather have Ebanks than Evans if I had a choice, but will take either. Apparently as brought up on this thread already, if Calipari bolts to the Knicks Evans will be a high likelihood for UT.

I have no idea what will happen with Ebanks, and Jeff Taylor is still out there. It is looking like this will be a 2 man class though.

Anything new for Texas 09 Basketball recruiting.

Are we recruiting Tommy Mason-Griffin or Elijah Johnson?

If Tommy Mason-Griffin decommits from LSU, which apparently is dependent on assistant coach Butch Pierre's status, Texas will definitely consider him.

Texas has recruited Elijah Johnson in the past, but I haven't seen anything regarding him in that sense in a while. He's been favoring the Jayhawks a bunch lately.

The thing I hate about the Ebanks recruitment is that Texas is going up against Bob Huggins and John Calipari. I'd rather Barnes have to match up with Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski in all honesty. I hadn't heard Texas would get the last visit. That's usually the best slot, in my opinion. I hate it when other schools get to take their best shot after the kid has already visited campus. Just have to keep him open until the visit occurs.

Between Todd Wright, Randa Ryan, Rick Barnes, and all the things UT and Austin have to offer, the UT basketball recruiting trip is a hell of a formidable recruiting weapon.

It seems like Ebanks has changed his travel schedule a bit and now has officially set his visits. Now, it looks like Texas will get the 2nd visit. West Virginia this weekend, Texas on April 25, Rutgers on May 2, and Memphis will get the last visit on May 9. All of this according to his AAU coach, via Adam Zagoria.

That's the order I was told a couple of weeks ago, denchen. I was surprised when information came out listing Texas last.

yeah, don't know what to say about the misinformation, other than to mention that I got it off of Zagoria's blog, too.

I would not get our hopes too high on Devine, I like the kid's game and with him UT would be a legit final four team in 09. Looks like Memphis may get Evans and Devine from my understanding of things. The only concern that I have heard is that there may be some concern by both parties that Memphis may not have enough basketballs for them both.

I hope his visit is outstanding and he likes UT/Austin maybe RB can take them to San Antonio to Feista for dinner, hope he likes Mexican food !

UT a long shot with MU and Rutgers a couple of strides ahead as we near the finish line.

Taylor to Vanderbilt.
The Link

J'covan Brown saga keeps going. He was going to sign, allegedly, but was going to wait until today so he could play in an AAU tournament, but now he's not signing today.

Sorry, no link on that.

I can't tell what's going on in the recruitment with Witherspoon, which is pretty much par for the course.

The latest is that J'Covan did sign today. There's no LOI in hand. Usually these things are sent by fax, but they're sending it FedEx, so there won't be any real confirmation until tomorrow.

Everyone should realize J'Covan has never been wishy washy on signing or not signing with Texas. He would have signed in the fall with UT if left to his own devices.

any concerns now that JB still doesn't make it on campus? (other than just the obvious that he has to qualify.)

Sure.

I'm not convinced there's going to be a FedEx package with a legitimate signed LOI in Austin tomorrow.

J'Covan still has work to do in getting qualified, although it's very manageable, and I have confidence he'll be able to do what is necessary regardless of how the rest of this saga turns out.

There's plenty of drama left, unfortunately.

Witherspoon is still claiming that Texas is recruiting him and that UT is still being considered, at least according to the announcer (Jimmy Dykes?) at the Jordan Brand All Star game this past weekend. I don't put a ton of stock in that, but I guess Witherspoon could just as easily not mentioned Texas at all, if we are indeed out of the mix.
