I am a single father and am about to start getting my 2 yr old daughter on a regular visitation schedule. I am interested in some kind of swimming classes for her that we could do together. If you can help me out with any information, please reply.
I'm not a single dad but I've had my kid(s) on weekends while my wife works since they were babies (one still is).
The city has swim classes for all levels, I think their website has info.
I taught my kid myself, just by spending lots of time at the pool. The only advice I'd give is let her choose her own pace. There's nothing as frustrating as watching a parent try to force their kid to do something.
Thanks for the reply K-man. My daughter loves the water, but I have to get her in a "certified" swin class before her mom will let me take her out on the boat.
My kids have both gone to the City of Austins swim lesson summer program every year since they were born. My daughter started at 10 months of age, and my son at 11 months of age. They are both now competent and able swimmers, and I dont have to worry as much about them around water. City of Austins parks and rec program at Northwest pool is where we usually go. Look on the citys website.
I can't do it now, but I'll find the name and number of a place that specializes in swimming instructions for kids. Its all she does and she's been doing it for about 30-years. She is certified in children's swimming lessons.
Nora Martin Swim School, located at 3302 Lafayette Ave. Her number is 477-4020. My daughter went there 2 or 3 years. Nora came highly recommended to us. Its kind of a strange setup; her home/business is on two lots -- her house is on a lot and a small pool is on the other under a huge oak tree. This is east of IH 35, south of 38 1/2 Street. I was a little skeptical at first, based on the location, but it turned out to be very cool. My daughter and the other kids loved it. I hope this helps.
Wow, that's cool. I've ridden my bike and drove past that house 100000 times and always wondered what was going on back there. It is a beautiful house and yard, my favorite in French Place. We live close to there, and my wife's been wanting to get lessons for our 4-yr old. I think I'll look into it.
