Any recs for last minute hotels in LA?

I talked to a buddy of mine who got a last minute flight. Flying out of SA via SWA in the morning. He found a Rose Bowl ticket in Austin for $300. Wow, have prices fallen...

Anyway, he has a rental car and is now trying to get a hotel. Any recs?

he needs to go to priceline/hotels.com and take whatever the **** he can find. And like it.

The greater LA area is bigger than most states. We stayed in a 5 Star in Chinatown for about $45 a night (priceline) for USC and a really really nice place for Michigan for about the same. Hotels are the least problem he has.
