Any precautions when moving a desktop computer?

I can't think of any precautions, except to move it myself. In the very old days, I seem to remember "parking" the harddrive. Is there anything like that now. Its a 2003 Dell 8250 with a DVD-burner and a Cd Burner.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

not really.

i think u're "supposed" to let the hard drive rest for like 30 mts or so before u move the pc.

i move my pc a lot to lan parties and i've had no problems just carting it up and carrying it there.

As long as you're not mailing it, just keep it lightly padded to avoid as much bumping around as possible. If it gets jostled a lot, you might want to take a look inside before booting up to make sure nothing got knocked loose (specifically the cpu heatsink/fan).

I cart my machines to LANs and I've never used more than a seat cushion or towel.

the hard drive will automatically park the heads when you turn it off now, so you don't have to worry about that. damn, i am a nerd.
