I think the reality of competing against GG for QB may weigh more heavily after visiting with Mack than it did before. His comments about the depth chart and TP sound to me like while he sees himself as unafraid of 5* competition, he does in fact harbor some (entirely rational) reservations.
I hope he comes and wish him well wherever he goes, which I doubt will be here or wherever TP goes.
THat AAS blog spot is weird. It sounds like Mack made the offer but then told Shepard that we don't really want two 5* QB's - then Shepard basically tells Mack that he just wants a shot and will play anywhere???
No, it sounded like Mack wanted to make certain he wasn't promising a prospect anything. Just being up front and honest w/ the guy. From Sheppard's reaction, he fully understood the situation.
It looks to me like Mack is making sure he isn't promising everything to everybody. I know it sucks to have an honest guy for a coach, and I would've loved to see his committment today, but looks like we'll just have to wait with this one.
We want Shepard and he wants us, just save some good stuff for later in the year. Also hope Mack finally gets the message that he needs to go after the top kids out of state at LB, TE and DE this year as well as in state. And early, not late like he usually does on the top out of state kids.
I really have a sinking feeling Michigan took the lead today folks. Mack is an honest coach and is torn on brining in 2 top QBs like this. I think Shepard has been a horn fan awhile, loved Vince, and pictured for so long that he would be the guy for UT under center. It just didn't pan out quite like that. Maybe we can make up some ground at the next Jr. day but my gut says it will be tough...
I think we are in good shape with Shepard. He understood what Mack was telling him and Mack will tell him he has a shot at QB. He was simply letting him know about the situation. Once Mack tells him that he will get a chance than he will be on board.
