Hate to start a thread without contributing something, but do any of the minds here have any comments about the field of teams in Omaha and who is favored, to be rooted for, etc.?

Safe travels, for those who are going.

[Chuck "Cutman" Kimmel] One of these eight teams is going to win this tournament, Casey, and the other seven will almost surely not. [/Chuck "Cutman" Kimmel]

"It was a left hook, with a bit of a jab."
"And yet, he did it all with his right hand."
"This fighter has remarkable skill."

CJ,

Looking at Boyd's World's Iterative Strength Ratings, here:

the money would likely be on Miami, Stanford, Rice, FSU, in that order.

But as you know, having been there yourself, anything can happen in the CWS.

CJ, it's a real toss up this year. The teams that I thought had it in the bag, just didn't get it done.

Thanks both.

Although they've got a few rings over the years, i think i'd like to see Stanford take it, given their similarily to Texas in striking a balance between athletics and academics, both at the highest levels.

And their fans are pretty cool, albeit a little quiet. i have inadvertently alienated them a time or two by my, er, "enthusiasm" when we've played them.

I agree that it's a toss-up...CWS usually is. Miami looked very good in their super--that offense is impressive (and I think Arizona could very well be in Omaha if they had been in a different bracket).

UNC is a mystery to me, mainly because I haven't seen them this year. But they seemed to have sailed through the regular season and the post-season. Funny thing is, though, that oftentimes teams like that get pummeled at the CWS.

So, who knows. I'll follow it, but it just isn't the same event for me without Texas there.
