We have recetly bought and moved into a house and have developed a small (so far) problem with ants showing up in the dining area and on kitchen counters. So far these seem to be the only areas where there is a problem. What is the best way to handle this on a permanent or semi-permanent basis?

What kind of ants? Size? Color?

Exterminators can be expensive and I like to know what chemicals are going where in my house. I order from the online pest supply places and kill 'em myself.

Go get a can of Bengal Roach spray. I know I know - it says roaches - but this stuff will end your ant problems period. Cost about $14 I think. It beats any bait or exterminator. You will thank me on this one.

You have to figure out what they are eating and remove that food source to have a long term solution. Mine were into the recycling b/c it wasn't rinsed out. I started rinsing and they split.

Mint jelly and boric acid. The only safe and proven way to completely kill colony (the queen and all workers).
