What's the prevailing wisdom on the best anti-virus programs on the market...? I've been a McAfee guy for years but would consider other options.

I don't know what's the best but I use Trend Micro's PC Cillin Internet Security 2004. It's a really nice package for $40-50ish that has a really good virus protection, spam blocker and firewall. I liked it over Norton because it's not as intrusive or resource hog. Just my opinion and experience with this product. I believe CNET gave this software a nice review also. l

they are all pretty much the same, the trick is to be vigilent and make sure you run your updating service regularly, run your windows update regularly as well. if you're running XP, turn on your ICF and ....blah..blah..blah.

all your AV is for is checking docs, files, email attachments.

u can get norton free w/ bevoware if u're a current student.

i use the personal edition cuz the norton anti-virus and firewall seem to work together real well.

like the posters said...update update update. That's windows update along with the virus/spam/firewall definition updates. With my trend micro product, current xp udpates, ad aware (free), spywareblaster (free), my computer is pretty darn clean of viruses and spywares.
