Anti-Virus Programs

What are the best freeware Anti-Virus programs out there? I have heard and read good things about both Avast and AVG. I thought some of y'all might be able to make some suggestions or have some insight. Thanks in advance.

AVG is working good for me. I also have Spybot search and Destroy's immunization feature and SpyBouncer's monitor working in addition to ZoneAlarm. You can't be too careful...

After having some issues with my computer, I dumped Norton, and loaded AVG - it found nothing. I bought the McAfee virus program and it found 7 infected programs (java worm/trojan horse things). After hearing so much about AVG, I was disappointed.

i still use norton and its great (along with the norton internet security, the firewall).

i tend to think norton isn't very good, i have in the past had viruses which it would not do anything about. also, somewhat off-topic, but their firewall is godawful, i don't even want to get into it, but i will never use any of their products again.

In the past I've used Norton, mcaffee, f-prot, avg, and a couple more. Each has been ok but none has been bulletproof, even with daily updates. The obvious reason I've tried so many is because the current one wasn't fixing a problem on my or a friend's machine. Right now I'm using Norton which has been fine since I'm usually pretty good about taking care of my computers.
