Another Tivo Question

I used to have Dish Network DVR, and then we got DirecTV, and the guys came and installed the Tivo that comes along with it. But now, a girl friend of mine got a Tivo as a gift, and wants me to set it up for her.

She has Digital Cable downstairs, and regular cable (just through the cord to her TV) upstairs in her room. She really would prefer the Tivo box to be upstairs. Can you even hook up Tivo to regular cable, or do you need a box? Is there any trick to setting this up? She got a splitter also, because she wants to Tivo something without watching it.

Please advise, so I can go over there and not spend my whole day behind the TV doing nothing.

Yes, just plug the coax directly into the appropriate coax plug on the back of the Tivo. When you set up the Tivo, choose the input option "Cable w/o box" or whatever.

Thanks Chang. Who would've thought I could get Tivo help from Tivo.com? See, it's when they confude the name like that, that's when they get you.

If you don't have a box, you shouldn't need the splitter either. There's a function that you can enable that makes it just a "pass through" for the cable signal. It will record something while you watch something else.
