Another Tax Question

So I started filling out my return using Turbo Tax online, married filing jointly. I input my W-2 info and the return comes out to be roughly +$1500. Then I start filling out my wife's W-2 information and I immediately notice that she wasn't charged any social security wages in 2007 and thus had no social security taxes withheld. This was definitely odd and I feared it would be bad, then sure enough, once I confirmed her information the return dropped to -$2000.

Is there something I'm missing here? Why would she pay no social security taxes throughout the year? (she's a teacher in Texas, I dunno if that matters) As a sanity check, I compared to her return from 2006 and the social security wages were very low, although not quite zero. IIRC, we received a nice refund last year, but maybe my return just outweighed hers. (neither of us have switched jobs or modified our W-9 though, so I'm not sure how this year would be much different)

Thanks for the help.

Teachers in Texas are covered by the Texas Teachers Retirement System and are not required to pay social security. Turbotax should allow you to put in zero for taxable social security wages.
