Another stroke of brilliance from a student...

So, one of my students came in late today because he had to get a booster shot.

While he was in my room for lunch detention, he was talking about how his arm hurt from the shot. Conversation goes on...

Kid: "Man, that shot hurt! Only shot I've had that hurt worse than that was when I had to get that shot in my *** because I had Chlamydia."

Me: "What?????"

Kid: "Yeah, right before I got out of jail I had Chlamydia and they gave me a shot in the *** and some pills. That was a big old long needle, too."

Me: ".... wow..."

Kids say the darndest things, eh? How old is this kid?

My wife teaches 8th grade science, so I don't think she's had any jail alums with the clap yet.

Most of my students have been to jail. Most of them are on probation. The Chlamydia Kid is 16.

Another really great one that came later that day from another kid:

Kid, with pride: "My momma has 14 kids, and I'm the oldest."

Me: "What?? You're on 16. "

Kid: "My momma was 14 when she had me. She just turned 30."

Me: "Your mother is the same age as me and has 14 kids???"

Kid: "If you're 30, then you're the same age as my mamma."

me: "Soooo... you're mom's pretty much been pregnant for the last 16 years?"

Kid: (puzzled look...)

Me: (Drops it)

exact same thought I had when the comment about having it when he was in jail came out...

No, he wasn't in trouble for coming in late. he was on restriction already.

I won't tell you which school I work at, but it's a high school in Central Austin. Keep in mind I teach special ed.

I would have thought you would take a transfer out of there when they renamed the school. Maybe you like punishment.

Smurfette, you're one of my favorite posters on this board. I think one time you posted a thread asking for help on a letter of a recommendation and you used my suggestion.

Hearing about what you go through every day, you have my deep respect. I know I couldn't do what you do.

Hey-- Texas ex... any chance you still have a reference letter sitting around?? I have used that letter, (with revisions) for several poeple now... and I need it again!! Unfortunately, my electronic copy somehow didn't make it w/ my files from my old school district--I lost a whole folder.
