Some of the biggest chill-bumps I ever got was not when he took that first step on the moon but rather when he and Aldrin touched down on the surface of the moon and he radioed something like "Houston, Tranquility Base here...the Eagle has landed."
I was sad over the weekend learning of his passing away. I remember where I was and what I was doing when I watched him walk on the moon July 20, 1969. He was a very humble man about his extraordinary experience.
Those men had enormous courage to take on that mission. There were probably about a thousand things that could have gone tragically wrong, but they did it.
I don’t know if this is true but I’ve read that our modern smartphones have more processing power than the computer systems used to run that mission in 1969. They did something astonishing with relatively primitive technology resources.
