I am forced to use my old computer which has windows 95 on it. I want to update it to 98 but I have Windows 98 update. Will that work or do I need the regular windows 98?

Short version: You can.

Long version: You don't want to.

Installing a Windows version by upgrader on an existing install invariably screws up your computer. If you have the original Windows 95 disk, then you can install a fresh copy of Windows 98 upgrade, using the Windows 95 disk to verify that you had the original. But, if you don't have a Windows 95 disk, then you need a copy of Wndows 98 full version to do a fresh install.

Basically, do a fresh Windows 98 install or leave the computer as it is.

I agree with Fanny. Windows 98 SE is a very good home computer OS. If the original poster's 98 upgrade CD is not SE, I would not recommend bothering to upgrade.

I also agree with Ag. Upgrading an existing install is never a good idea. It sounds like it would be great to not have to reinstall all your applications, but the instability of your system would quickly rival a Windows ME installation.
