My car (a 2000 Toyota Avalon, 80k miles) is making a quiet gurgling noise whenever I accelerate. I've been told switching to premium gas would help, but it didn't. Any ideas?

I'm in Austin. I wouldn't be opposed to taking it to a mechanic if anyone can recommend one.

Turn on the heater and see if it makes a difference. Sounds like there might be some air in the heater core.

Premium gas might eliminate or reduce engine knocking but won't do much for a "quiet gurgle". As mentioned, it might be a coolant issue. My car does it once in a while and nothing bad has happened. Yet.

The gas would only help if the noise is actually "pinging" which you should notice more under acceleration or going up hills. You could try a tank, which won't hurt.
Otherwise, not a typical noise we hear regularly-if it is in the cooling system, check the level when the motor is cold to see if it is full, then you should have a coolant replacement service, maybe some buildup in the fins of the radiator or heater core , some air in the system where the water pump is trying to pump air instead of water, something like that.
We work on Toyotas if you want to PM me.
