Another 2008 recruit: Devin Ebanks

I've been making a few vague hints about this.

My understanding is that they're prepared to bring Devin Ebanks in to Austin for a visit once he gets his release from Indiana. I thought the staff had backed off of him before because of some past behavior in Ebanks' life, but the Texas staff has been assured by people they trust currently in Ebanks life that he has turned a corner over the last year in part due to his new surroundings.

This guy is like an Aldridge level talent coming out of high school. Not the same player, but the same caliber. He does need to get stronger, but he's a heck of an athlete with an inside-outside game.

This will be an interesting recruiting story to follow.

The Tyreke Evans deal is still not over, either, and while I'd still bet on Memphis winning that recruiting in the end, UT's chances are better than they're being credited for by basketball recruitniks around the country.

Don't ask me any scholarship limitation questions, because I wouldn't have even the first clue as to how to answer them. That's not about me keeping quiet. That's about my personal complete and utter ignorance. I seriously don't know what in the world they're going to do about the scholarship numbers.

No doubt.

I wish Kelvin Sampson would hurry up and get another college coaching job so he could start working on another Texas recruiting class.

Denim shirts forever!

That begs the question: Do you think Kelvin is steering these guys towards Texas because of his relationship to Rick Barnes?

I know they like and respect each other and have similar coaching philosophies. It just makes me wonder. It's obvious that these guys respect Kelvin for whatever reason, and it seems they might ask his advice as to who they should play for after the can't play for him.

Maybe he says "You can't go wrong with Rick Barnes." Or something to that effect.

Pure speculation, but I just find it interesting that we get in on these kids so quickly.

Once again SL, you come up w/ some great info. Whenever I read your bball posts you always have a wealth of info, that makes sense. So. either your Rick Barnes in disguise or one hell of a bullshitter!! Either way keep it coming

The recruiting machine that Rick Barnes has created at Texas is remarkable. Also this season was a record for attendance. We'll always be a football school, but basketball is really starting to take off here.

Devin Ebanks is a very good player with an excellent handle and as SLX said an inside-outside game. He is a lot stronger then people assume due to his lanky body. People have commented that he can do 18-20 reps @ 205 lbs., for a 17 yr old.that is not bad, but he will add weight and strength to his frame.

I was wondering if his past association were the cause for Tx. backing off when Slx. stated that Tx. had back off of him a couple of weeks age. I thought that was a dumb idea to do so.

This kid is a prime impact player, a scorer inside and out and rebounds well for his weight and size. This kid can play the 4-2 slots without any problems but his best spot is the 3.

This kid would put us in the Dance picture next year and J'coven would be just icing on the cake if we sign him.
With Reke its a coin flip but Mempis has his attention. Beating Mempis could sway him away and to Austin if we are lucky.

I don't doubt that Ebanks will ask for a release and I expect IU to grant it; however, once again, the link has a reference to a clause in the LOI letting Ebanks out if IU made a coaching change.

I still say that has to be a bunch of BS for reasons already stated in the Terrell Holloway thread last week.

When do you expect a release to be granted? After a new coach is hired? What are Texas' chances? Would taking him make us thin in the backcourt?

I don't know when a release would happen. Maybe you're right, and IU will wait until they hire a new coach to give him a chance to change the current signees minds.

It sounds like UT's chances are excellent. It'd likely be another one that comes down to Memphis and Texas.

I'm assuming Texas will have Dogus Balbay and J'Covan Brown in the backcourt. I don't think Texas would have incredible depth at the guard position, but they'd have a chance to be deeper than they are this year.

Kelvin Sampson will be the Dallas Mavericks new head coach if Dallas doesn't make the playoffs this year.

I am calling my shot right here.
