According to folks around here, this is the only web site that really offers free credit reports once a year.

My question for anyone that's used it:

I've looked at my Experian report this year through freecreditreport.com (NOT FREE!). What will happen if I try to look at all three at annualreport.com?

Will I be charged by Experian? Will I be charged by all 3? Will the request be denied?

you should be able to get 1 free report per agency through annual credit report .com each year. It doesn't matter how many you bought or got "free" from elsewhere.

It'll be free -- if you like in Texas -- once per year from annualcreditreport.com even if you checked your history from some other source.

Annualcreditreport.com never charges. At worst, they'll say no (for example, if you try to look at your report twice). Caveat: one of the big3 may try to upsell. But it should be pretty clear and not sneaky. If you simply follow the links from annualcreditreport, you should be fine.

My mortgage broker also said annualcreditreport.com is the only free one... but to get your credit score will cost ~$6.

They all pretty much have the same info. Order one every 4 months & you'll get free credit reports regularly to monitor any unusual activities.

If you've applied for financing recently, and been declined, you have the right to request a free copy of your credit report from the agency used in the lender's decision. The request has to be within 60 days of the decision.

And am I correct that there is no negative impact from me looking at my reports? I know if there are too many views on your report it can have a negative impact, but I thought I heard/read that when you look at your own, it is listed as such and has no ill impact. This sound right?

I am asking because my Experian report will show me looking at it twice in short order within 3 months of needing to refinance the house.
