apparently as-j talked with an espn guy about his upcoming plans. i haven't been able to find the story, so i can't provide a link.

he mentions he is hopeful for a texas offer and talks a bit about bruce chambers' visit this week. he mentions the 4.65 40 he ran and says he ran it in the rain.

he says he's talking with us a lot and that it appears to him that we are certainly interested. he also says that if we don't offer that he plans to announce on his birthday, sept 29. if we do offer, he plans to take his visits and then make a decision, and i'm guessing that means before his birthday.

i am confused about that, soho. so, you're saying if he does get an offer from us, that makes his decision harder and he won't be ready by sept 29?

is that how you read it? or that he won't take visits if we don't offer?

by the way, you probably know, but the soho district in manhattan is so-named because it is immediately south of houston street, a major east-west street. not houston like sam houston, but pronounced how'-stun. so, you say, does that mean noho is NORTH of houston? yes, it is but not immediately north of soho. right up from soho is grenwich village with noho east of the village.

no idea where ruby is.

interesting article. thanks for the link, ide.

the author seems genuinely confused about our not offering before a visit. austin has offers from biggies all over the country, and given his comments about us, it must seem really strange that we insist on a camp visit before offering. i looked to see if the author has an email address posted to drop him a line, but couldn't spot one.

mack's approach is unusual but it really pays dividends. the way a kid fits in with the group is really important to us and there's really no substitute for getting youngsters together and seeing how it all clicks.

as-j has visited us before, so we aren't strangers, but i don't think mack has had any chance to see him with the group he would be coming in with.

i doubt very seriously that we have any lingering concerns about his doing the job in a splendid manner, except, i bet we really want to see how he catches a hard-thrown ball. he did great at the nike camp, but i bet we want to watch him catch a few hot ashes, so to speak. i have always thought that bj johnson had trouble with hard-thrown balls, but nobody knew it in hs.

also, i think mack really likes sitting down with the family and making the offer in person. mailing an offer is so impersonal and would rob mack of the chance to do it the way he likes and the way that works so well for us.

noticed on the front page at that site while looking for an email addy some mention of a snoqualmie kid. when you guys go up to seattle, be sure to go out to snoqualmie falls. not far away and spectacularly beautiful. also, there is a back way alongside the river up to the falls that is well worth the time to experience. you drive on north past the falls, down the hill and around some curves to a left turn on, i think, 372nd ave se and work your way over to se fish hatchery rd. then drive back south toward the falls, almost as far as you can go, to a parking lot. the path along the river is pretty easy to spot, and the walk is very beautiful and worth taking even if the falls were not a short distance away.

here's a pic of the falls from down below.

more:

here's a nice pic of the end of the board walkway from that parking lot to the lower view of the falls. if you are nimble, you can climb your way down to the river level like this shutterbug did.

if the boardwalk lower view is not a good option, there is still a spectacular view from above that is very easy to access. here's an ice pick, i mean a nice pic, from there. it ain't that red. the guy is dicking with the colors, a favorite pastime at the google site.

Hasn't the NCAA outlawed the TE position at Texas as too hazardous for the student athlete?

And I thought our motto was simply... "Just Win Baby"... without a TE!

All we have is a weekend or two to wait... and we'll know if AS-J will be living in an Burnt Orange House!

Glenn, you are right... but it's sounding like AS-J wants to be a Longhorn in the worst way! We'll wait & see...

that's certainly the impression i get as well, h-d. i gotta like our position.

maybe the one thing that worries me, though, is the number of guys bouncing around right on the lip of the cup. i don't think any of us knows how many more the cup will hold. i like this kid and really want him in burnt orange, and knowing what happened with vaughters some weeks ago is making me ill-at-ease. i can see that happening again, and i didn't want to see that happen with vaughters either. big time.
