Anniversary Dinner

My wife and I have our 3rd on the 25th.... start throwing out recommendations for a Anniversary Dinner please.

These are the places I have looked into and am considering:

Wink, Sampaio's, Uchi, and Vespaio.... others?

I would take Sampaio off that list. It's decent, but not for a special occasion.

Uchi and Vespaio--love them both, just keep in mind that neither take reservations so expect to wait a good while (45 minutes or more) unless you get there before 6:30.

Wink is a solid choice, and they do take reservations. How about Aquarelle, Chez Nous, Fonda San Miguel or Castle Hill Cafe (before they close...

Happy anniversary!

Jeffrey's?

If you don't want to spend QUITE that much, then I often recommend Cafe Josie on W 6th. They'll take a reservation.

Wow -- Cafe Josie is what came to mind for me as well, for somewhere that is not one of the "usual suspects." Jeffrey's is always a good choice. IWe really like Jasper's at the Domain as well, for a nice dinner.

Trattoria Lisina (if you don't mind the drive)
Bellagio
Siena
Andiamo
Carmelo's

in that order.

Obviously, I approve of Italian food for an anniversary dinner!

There are a few reasons that Sampiao are on the list.

1) my wife has never been there and I go there with the guys fairly regularly.

2) I know it isn't the most fancy/special occasion place around, but I don't have tons of money to spend really.

3) I love the food there. For the greatness of Italian food, I love Brasilian.

So any other Brasilian places I would love to hear about as well.

Take Wink off the list. Terribly overpriced and not enough room.

Vespaio always good. III Forks if you want a STEAK dinner.

Mars is good, now on S. Congress.

And new Four Seasons restaurant is excellent.

It might be a little lower key than you're expecting for an anniversary dinner but Buenes Aires Cafe on south First and Oltorf is a nice, small place with excellent food and service. A great date place.

wink and zoot are both great, but.....

my last meal at zoot was more $ and not quite as good as previous visits - still great.

wink - let them know it is your anniversary and they do a neat job of taking care of you, personalized menus and such.

al&cc - great austin-y steakhouse

iii forks - best steak in austin, imo, but pricey and it has a slightly less personal feel and more of a business dinner feel

uchi - incredible sums it up, but no reservations which sucks on anniversary/birthday type dinners

I want to thank everyone for the great ideas, and I will keep most of these places in mind. I must say that the wife and I live in Temple, and since we have a baby, I think the wife wants to just stay close and do dinner AND a movie since we have a baby sitter. I am going to honour that request I think and we will go to either the Red Onion in Killeen, or Cheeve's in Temple.

Again, thank you so much for the ideas!

We ended up at The Red Onion Bistro in Killeen. Very good Indian food, which until the opening of this place hasn't been available any where close. My wife also didn't get to eat any Indian food while pregnant or during the nursing months. Those just ended, so it was a great meal for us both.
