Didn't see the story, but assuming she did, at least her and Mitt are doing their part to keep the economy afloat.

Whereas Obama likes to spend taxpayers' money (or else money borrowed from China), I see nothing wrong if the Romneys are spending their own money, which Mitt earned from successful business/consulting ventures.

And as far as middle class appeal goes, do more middle class Americans aspire to be like Romney or like Obama?

I think making a big issue out of this is taking a big risk of looking petty and jealous. I can't afford a new Lexus, big diamonds or $1,000 garments, but I don't resent that people can have them. Every once in a while I get to visit a million dollar home or ride in an $80,000 coupe and it's kinda fun and I'm glad to have successful friends who keep things in perspective and don't judge me by my income.

Will this be a better world if FOX News and MSNBC start devoting resources to researching the cost of clothing worn by candidates wives? Forgive me if I don't see that as the route to building a better America.

I believe that Michelle Antoinette Obama has been chided on a number of occasions for her expensive clothes and other extravagant spending sprees while she has been first lady. Surely in such a high profile leadership role Michelle should set a better example, especially if these sorts of issues are of concern to the left, as they appear to be in the story in the OP.

Mojo: At least in this forum, a researcher might decide it's not a good idea for Obama's camp to make an issue out of this. The centerists on the board, likely the only group in play, seem to universally find making this an issue disgusting and nobody on the left seems very enthused. Plus, it's clear that the hard right is quite ready to say "game on" and counterattack based on what Michelle chooses to wear and spend. As a News guy, I think the only media where I would devote much air time/column space would be talk radio, FOX News, Washington Times as a "look at the stupid liberals trying to make an issue of this" not caring to notice that the "liberal media" mentioned it once and moved on.
