Andromeda Strain

ehhh... it is not a book which lends itself well to TV anyway. I'm not certain the update is doing it much good. That said, I read the book, the acting is decent, so I'm enjoying myself.

terrible terrible terrible. turned it off after 30 minutes. I should've known when i saw tht no talent Benjamin bratt in the opening credits

this is quite possibly the stupidest adaptation of the book you can possibly imagine.

They followed the book for the first 90 mins or so of the series, and now suddenly, they have taken a ******* radical turn

I just ******* love every hollywood story that implies the government will always do something that will **** us.

And I especially LOVE the presentation that shows high ranking army personel as murderous ******** only out for themselves.

i know it was a good movie. in fact, if I hadnt seen that movie, I would have had no ******* idea what the hell was going on in this mini series.

They completely skipped the part about how the scientists discovered the connection between the old man and the baby. Instead one of our heros had a ******* "vision" that put it all together for her and *POOF* instant problem solved.

although the nuke at the bottom of the lab still wants to go off at the end- a full 2 days after our heroes have discovered that andromeda ******* EATS radiation. Like everyone went retarded and forgot that they were sitting on a nuclear ******* bomb and didnt disarm it- for two WHOLE DAYS. And I KNOW that scene was a huge part of the book and the movie, but our screenwriters made it a dumbass ending for no particular reason.

and dont even get me started on the time paradox these idiot writers contrived to solve our problem.

I DVR'd it, hoping if I fast forwarded it, that it would somehow redeem itself, to no avail.

Screenwriter checklist:
1. Sinister US Army Colonels & Generals: check
2. Time paradox: Check
3: self sacrificing hero: check
4: Gay character FOR NO ******* REASON OTHER THAN TO SAY HES GAY: Check
5. NSA & Homeland Security advisors have their own secret agenda thats going to kill the world: Check
6. Southern Drawl on the "uninformed" President, sounding almost, Texan, with a little "strategery" thrown in. Check

The only good thing to come out of this movie is proof that 44 year old Christa Miller is a ******* MILF cougar with very well formed tracts of land

I was never really that happy with the way the book ended (as I recall the problem basically fixed itself, doesn't really make for riveting reading) but everything up to that was good. Sounds like the adaptation just made it worse.

BTW, does anyone else think that Crighton endings all seem to have that pattern - build up to where there's absolutely no way to resolve the conflict and then all of a sudden the island blows up/the helicopter arrives/the virus eats itself/everyone forgets what happened?

Andromed was Chrichton's first major work of fiction. He wrote while in med school using doctors in his rotation as templates for the characters. It is a fun little book, but more a proceedural story than a the books which followed, even though it set the standard of how his scifi would be told (small group of specialists, cut off from the world, have to address an immediately life threatening prospect before it becomes a world threatening prospect.

"I just ******* love every hollywood story that implies the government will always do something that will **** us."

And based on the past 7 years, what as persuaded you otherwise?

The first night was mildly entertaining-the second was almost unwatchable. The ending to the miniseries was lifted from HG Wells' War of the Worlds-the simplest of God's creatures destroy the invading hord.

it had the medicine man theme, dont be destroying the natural resources (drilling in the trenches will destroy the bacteria that saves man or some ****), and we are our own worst enemy and if we dont stop breaking **** we will die too.

OK, I'm pissed. Tivo'd this and watched for two hours last night to find out that's only part 1.

I'm not impressed enough to watch part 2, and I want two hours of my life back.
wtf.gif

If you weren't impressed by Part 1, you don't need to go anywhere near Part 2.

And for as good as Christa Miller looks, the woman cannot act.

An ok book turned into a decent movie 40 years ago. A decent movie turned into an unwatchable pile of crap mini-series.
