American Idol Finale

How f'ing terrible was this pile of garbage? Yeah, yeah I know many of you hate the whole show. But it has been a TV stalwart for a decade now and the lineup, production quality, and ratings all seem to have taken a big, big slip. Without Simon this show should die. The lineup of "stars" was a joke. The Bee Gees? Chicago??? It was a who's who of has-beens.

I started by not watching the results shows early into this season. Then I quit watching the show altogether a few weeks ago and haven't missed it at all. Lee winning only solidifies Idol's growing irrelevance.

I watch the very first episodes when they go from town to town so people can make bafoons of themselves. I don't watch a second after that. I can see why people would and why it is popular, or was. I get it but I don't watch it.

I enjoyed Bret Michaels and Casey doing 'Every Rose Has It's Thorn'. Didn't really mind the rest...yeah is was kind of old school, but the only one I hated was Chicago. I was a huge fan when they were big, but last night they were just awful. I was also entertained by the whole 'Simon Roast' deal. The outcome is what I expected, but I don't agree with it.

The average viewer age has risen from 30 when the show premiered 9 years ago to 45 today. There's no way it will last if that keeps increasing.

No one wants to see 18-year-olds performing Sinatra ballads. If they're actually trying to find a pop idol, they can either scrap the show and start over, or do some serious reworking.

Yeah, I think I'm done with the show after this season.

I enjoyed watching Christina A and Janet Jackson. She really has an amazing ***.

The viral video of the Mom's reaction to the Idol Final on youtube is priceless and a very telling example of the typical American household.

This wasn't on the finale, but when Lee and Crystal did the duet of Falling Slowly that was so freaking outstanding. Great duet work on a killer song.

I can count on one hand -- and not use all my fingers -- the number of times I have watched Idol over the years.

Yeah, I do feel superior.

Ive said it before, ill say it again.

Bowesox wont have a bigger career than Lee's. And I bet Lee's wont even be that great either.

If Crystal was on the show maybe in 94-95' when her style of music was popular, she might be a huge hit. Right now, people dont give 2 shits about an average looking girl that plays guitar and has dreds. Just look at what is on main-stream radio right now... its a bunch of bull **** dance pop music.

Lee has an album on ITunes that he released prior to his Idol journey and he was the only season 9 contestant to make it on the Billboard Top 50 Buzz charts (I think thats what its called). Im not sure if Crystal had a CD out too or not, but I seriously dont see her out-selling any prior Idol winner or even some of the losers. Her style just isnt what is popular. Which sucks for her, because she was the best singer this year.

Think about it this way... How many people that dont watch Idol know about Crystal Bowersox or Lee DeWyze? Not anyone that I know. Yet everyone heard about Adam Lambert last year because he was outrageous on the show and controversial. This was Idol's lowest rated season ever, therefor less people will buy their CD's. Kris Allen (last years winner) is already getting out-sold by Lee's pre-idol album. Thats pretty pathetic.

I just dont see either of them having a long career. I was a HUGE HUGE fan of Idol last year... this year.. it was a painful couple of weeks to get through.

IMO, the ONLY way for this show to survive without Simon is to start letting the contestants PLAY THEIR OWN ORIGINAL SONGS!!! I would much rather hear Crystal play her originals, end up liking one of her songs, then have a reason to buy her CD. However, after Idol.. the only thing she has sung are artists that were popular 10 years ago and sound exactly like her. Now everyone just compares her to them and moves on without really giving it an honest listen.

Sorry for the long-winded response.. but I fear for one of my favorite shows and how it will survive without Simon. But I think letting the kids play original songs would be a damn good start.

THe guests they had on prior results shows this season was impressive actually, the guests on the final show was a bit dissapointing.

*sigh* I remember the old days, when a musical act had to actually pay their dues, playing for 12 or 15 people in dives and honkytonks all over the region, hoping that someone with contacts at a record label might be in the audience some night. Those acts WORKED for their breaks.

Now these kids just sign up for American Idol and skate their way to fame.

Same thing with America's Got Talent, but at least not all the performers a vocalists. You at least get to see some variety on the path to easy fame and fortune.

I'm not sure I'd call it "skating" to fame.
1. They're competing against 100K others to start.
2. They have to get through 2 levels of auditions just to see the "panel."
3. They have to get through another week based on looks and raw talent alone.
4. They have to get through 15 more weeks without the entire country getting sick of you.

That said, I agree with the idea that it's just not that great a pool or overall idea any longer. It's run its course. We got people such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood out of it, and some good "stories" like Clay Aiken and Daughtry. But they're not going to keep this thing alive in its current format much longer.

it's not going anywhere. although its ratings have dropped, it is still one of the highest rated shows on tv.

Whether or not it produces 'stars' is kind of irrelevant. The show itself can be pretty entertaining at times, and the first couple of weeks when they are going through auditions is some of the best comedy around. I don't watch much TV at all but we kind of like AI.
