American Airlines SUCKS

If i try to upgrade I'm told that I would have to be waitlisted. I tried that on a flight back from Ireland and still ended up in coach. I am supposed to go to Europe and then India for business and any flight I try to upgrade I'm told +-3 days I would have to be waitlisted.

continental has a pretty good plan even if you arent elite status but you have to pay extra for the upgrade. for a european city its around 20,000 miles plus 500.00 for an upgrade. you do have to pay but its a lot cheaper than a normal business first purchase and 500.00 bucks imo opinion is worth it for a 10 plus hour flight.

As a lifetime elite member with AA (1,000,000+ miles), I can say that using miles to upgrade isn't always the easiest thing. But, I've never had a problem using miles to purchase flights.

If there isn't a seat available in 1st class, or there are other people trying to upgrade (perhaps Executive Platinum members), it makes sense that you would be put on a waiting list to see who shows up.

Um..I don't think 200k miles is really all that much. I mean, it's a lot but within 8posts we have a guy with over a million. So obviously there are people out there who have more miles (i.e. better customers for american airlines to kiss *** too).

I fly from NY-LAX an annoying amount of times and I usually put my upgrade request in as soon as I book. Still, I only get it half the time. Too many people who throw around a lot more weight want those seats too.

Supply and demand.

Just buy the ticket or don't go to India. That would actually be my vote.

first off - dont go to india - trust me on this.

Second 200k is ****. I got 135k in the last 5 months.

Do you have 200k Miles or 200k miles flown on American?

The money you are spending on your card doesnt mean anything.

Oh ill say it one more time - dont go to india.

the reason you cant get upgrades to india is because its india. Everyone knows it sucks to go to india so companies buy their employees the seats to entice them to go to india. They dont want to give them excuses not to go to india.

If you work for a company that flies you to India coach you should change companies.

If you are going to India of your own free will.... dont.

If you are really a 200k plus AA flyer then you are Diamond elie on One World and Asia Miles - you can fly from Heathrow to India on BA and upgrade if you pay for the full fare economy.

Finally, Europe to India is what, 6 hours? I wounldnt waste miles on that anyway.

"first off - dont go to india - trust me on this."

Been 3 times. I know how it is.

"Second 200k is ****. I got 135k in the last 5 months. Do you have 200k Miles or 200k miles flown on American? "

200K to burn. I have been a frequent flyer for over 5 years now.

"If you work for a company that flies you to India coach you should change companies. "

Yes, they will fly us anywhere in the world in coach. Unless of course you are an executive

"Finally, Europe to India is what, 6 hours? I wounldnt waste miles on that anyway. "

It's closer to 9 and on the way back over 20.

well i feel bad for being a cock in my last post since i feel kinship with anyone who has to fly to india.

dude - it's all about getting your tiers. I have like 700k miles but it all became sublime when i hit diamond tier on cathay. then you ALWAYS get your upgrades.

Work on you tier with single minded focus.

For business i always get business but i use my miles for personal travel.

I feel for you bro. I had to fly to NYC from HK coach - i had managed in 5 years to never fly coach from asia or europe to the us - im only 6 1 and it sucked.

Here's to hoping u get your upgrade but remember - they arent fuckin you its a busines - they sold those seats.

India travel is an adventure....why all the India hate? There's just nothing quite like that late evening transfer from the Mumbai domestic airport over to the international airport. There's something magical about waking up in Hyderabad, throwing open the curtains to your room at the Sheraton Grand Kaktiya and going, "where the f**k am I and how did I get here?"

Agree with one thing.....first class seats to India are hard to come by. No one should have to fly coach to India.

I wasn't even asking for First. Hell, I would have been happy with business. Although I have flown First over and it is pretty darn nice.

I understand they are a business and they have to make money. My frustration came from looking at their online seating and seeing every seat but one available. And this was 5 days before the trip.

I lucked out and didn't have to go this time but I'm sure I'll run into this problem again.

Never flown into Mumbai. We actually are restricted from going through there. I have made the Deli transfer from the domestic to international terminal with Al Unser as our driver. Man that was interesting.

Btw, for anyone that goes with some adventurous people, next time have a rickshaw race to whereever you are going. We offered the drivers something like 200 rupies to the winner and I can't tell you how alive you feel zipping through traffic watching 2 or 3 times as you scrape the side of a bus.

Yes AA sucks big ou sooner nuts. I will NEVER fly AA again. Give me SWA and Cont Air anyday. I heard the other day that now AA wants to charge you 8 or ten bucks for a little crappy pillow and blanket

WHY WHY WHY DO I NOT LEARN.

I booked a ticket to Vegas in May last week unfortunatley on american because they were the cheapest. I look today and the ticket is $60 cheaper. So when I call in to AA to ask for a refund I'm told that they would have to charge me $150 to "change" my ticket so there wouldn't be a refund. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

can we al go ahead and agree that anybody who says they will never fly airline x again will in fact fly them the next time they can save 5 bucks or 15 minutes of wait time?

No, because I am someone, and I will never fly American again. I don't even look at their prices if I'm comparing. No price, not even free, could ever compensate for the horrible service, the near certainty of late arrival/departure and missed connections, and the utterly dismissive attitude of their people.

Must be great to live in places where you have a choice. In Dallas, that's the only game in town unless you want to do the Southwest no seat assignment thing (which I usually will not do).
