I'm going to Amarillo this weekend and want to eat a good, mesquite-grilled ribeye. Anyone know the best place to find one? I've heard some ok things about David's and the Big Texan.

For all its kitcsh, Big Texas is actually decent. Not the 72 ouncer, but just the regular steak. Sides are very good.

I've eaten at the Big Texan and it was good.

I know you specified "steak," but here's a link to a supposedly very good burger place in Amarillo:

The Link

If I ever get to Amarillo again, I'm going to check it out.

I like to hear about places that are rated highly.

If you aren't interested that's cool and I apologize for disrupting your steak thread.

I was in Amarillo for my grandmother's funeral several years ago and ate at the Big Texan. I just figured it was a tourist trap, but the food was actually quite good.

When we were in Amarillo last year, we never went for steaks, but even some of the locals recommended the Big Texan. Apparently it's pretty good.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've heard good things about David's. Anyone ever eaten there? Might have to try the Texan. Fred, I'll try to stop by the burger joint. If I do, I'll let you know how it is. Thanks!

Same story here. Figured I would check out Big Texan since it looked so cheesy and touristy. Was not expecting much. But they can cook a great steak for sure and I agree about the sides. Don't get an appetizer or you may not finish your steak.

Think ahead what song you would like the guys who walk around playing music will play for you. I had them play one of my deceased grandmothers favorite songs I would hear when growing up. They did a great job. I enjoyed the experience.

I grew up in Amarillo so trust me on this one. Davids is hands down the best steak in Amarillo. The Big Texan is cool to see and as stated here the food is really quite good. But for the quality of the food it is no contest. The owners name is David Hutchens. He has been in the food business up there like forever. He has another place called Buns Over Texas which is a great build your own burger joint.

I had the same experience, as I had just come from my grandmother's funeral that morning. I had them play one of her favorites, which was Faded Love by Bob Wills.

I live in Amarillo. Davids is great. The Big Texan is great too. Lotta fun! The Country Barn is also a good place. Just for the heck of it check out the Beef Burger Barrel on West 10th ave

Well, we ate at the Big Texan on Friday night because it was on the way to the hotel from the airport and we were hungry. Everything was good....except the steak. I ordered the ribeye, and it was tough and overcooked. I really wish we would've tried David's.

On Saturday, we ate at Boondock's. Great little biker bar. The boondock burger was excellent. Super greasy. Fries were good too. We were the only people in there, so I know they'd appreciate the business.
