AM returning to 3-4

This will be a disaster. They've been having trouble getting good d-linemen. They'll get killed in a 3-4.

It's an interesting move. I kind of thought that the recruiting effort has been on the line. It seems as though the ags linebackers would need an upgrade for this system to work.

The question as to whether this is a good move is does the current AGGY roster have LB's that fit that alignment?? When the true Wrecking Crew was around- they had a LB group that has not been seen at Colleyville since!

Actually, the 3-4 will make recruiting easier for them. One of the reasons that Slocum liked the 3-4 is that it's much easier to find good linebackers than defensive lineman. They will be able to put more talent on the field with this formation than with a 4-3. You can also blitz from more angles and be more disruptive and unpredictable. At Texas, we don't have a problem recruiting lineman, so I would just assume stick with a 4-3 most of the time.

I don't understand why people think their DL is thin. They only played 2 LBs last year and lost both of them. Their DL dominated our OL.

The switch to 3-4 is plain stupid. It's not the NFL where you can plug in a bunch of rush ends and oversized OLBs on blitzes.

You can take bigger safeties and spin them up to LB: See Auburn's LB's.

We have three guys who that will probably occur with(Williams, Young, Thompson).

The advantage of the 3-4 it puts more speed on the field without sacrificing the run (ala 4-2-5)

If aggy's gonna run a fulltime 3-4, they're gonna have to spin some big safeties, or find their linebackers someplace else, like Louisiana. The current trend in Texas, with all of the spread offenses, had put the emphasis on defensive linemen and db's. There just haven't been scads of division one linebackers in the state in several years.

I could see mixing in SOME 3-4 with the base 4-3, but there are just not enough linebackers to run the 3-4 unless I am missing something.

Back in the 80s and early 90s, the best athletes on defense wanted to play linebacker. Now they want to play safety or defensive end.

I think it would be easier to recruit to a 2-4 from a personell standpoint as well, since you don't need as many big boys w/ skill. Harder to sell them on being run stuffers and gap pluggers so the LBs can get all the numbers, but there's some damn good aggy DL in the NFL they can point to.

Agree on spinning down guys in college. Don't think size is all that important in CFB, speed is much more important.
