. . . who thinks the Green Mile is as good as Shawshank?

I saw it again last night and came to the conclusion that I like it as much as I like Shawshank.

Flame away, fellow posters.

Not a flame, but for me, there's just no comparison.

Shawshank >>>>>>>>>> Green Mile.

you only say that because you have seen shawshank about a thousand times because it is on every week. you have only seen green mile a couple of times.

this is the second to the "did Barnes tank it" post as worst ever.

just kidding of course, but to answer your question you may be the only one.

Shawshank >>>>>> Green Mile.

Green Mile has just way too much typical Stephen King Mystical Negro. John Coffey is essentially Sambo on HGH.

What if Hanks or Robbins weren't cast as the lead? Would we still be talking about these movies as we do today?

I like both films. Both are in my top 10. Frank Darabont can rewrite/edit Stephen King can't he?? I think I like Green Mile slightly better because of the Christ themes.

Anyone catch those? Jesus Christ - John Coffey
Takes away others hurts and makes them his own. - Isaiah 53: "By his wounds we are healed"

Both were actually innocent yet found guilty.

Both gave 'eternal life'

Both killed by Capital punishment.

There were several more.

He has a prisoner to each side of him; one that repents (Delacroix) and one that does not (Wharton)

I didn't think Green Mile was all that good. They thought of a normal sounding name that had the initials J.C. - so what? Those types of allusions seem impressive but don't require a whole lot of creativity in my opinion. Plus I just watched it and it didn't keep my attention or anything, it didn't get me in the mood of "Oh please, find a way to save the innocent" or on the edge of my seat wondering if he would be released or condemned. I didn't find myself caring at all, except I hoped Percy would be slowly tortured to death in a pit of fire ants.

some interesting responses. while i thought most, if not all, of the responses would be "what are you thinkin" I am surprised that some did not like it at all.
