I just flat out think the Spaniards have the better side than the Germans. I mean, there's something to be said when your superstar gets hurt and you can later put in Fabregas and the leading scorer from La Liga.

In any event, as the great Tommy Tuberville has taught us, small and fast triumphs over big and slow in all codes of football, and this tourney has been no exception. The krauts have a height advantage. So did the guineas. Moreover, Germany had to rely on horrendous officiating to beat Portugal, and then narrowly beat a depleted Turkish side. Spain's been flat out better than every side they've faced. They're better than the Germans. Yet everybody tells me I'm stupid to expect them to win.

What am I missing?

Speed has been killing this tourney. The Germans don't have as much of an advantage in the air as they used to. I'm rooting for Germany but I think Spain will win.

I have some German blood in me AND I think of the movie, Victory, every time the German National Anthem is played.

Spain should win. They're the better team. Period.

The reason why people think the Germans will win would be the same reason the Italians were going to beat Spain. Their country has a history of winning. Never mind that the last time Germany won something big was 12 years ago when no one was on the team. (Ballack might have been an unused sub, but I don't know for sure.)

If this were Latvia vs Israel, the team with the players that match Spain's lineup and Spain's output in this tournament would be favored. Not the team matching Germany's.

So YES, Spain should win. People are picking against them because their country has never won. But the Germans on this team have never won either. So I don't think "history" matters much in this case.

I'll be watching the game with a bunch of krauts at the Alamo. And I don't mean krauts as in Argentines with German last names. I mean, people who are very good with "TH's" because they were born in Deutschland!!
