Am I a bad person ...

Wayne Graham, somewhere deep in his soul, doesn't hate UT.

I bet he even has his diploma hanging somewhere (or at least framed).

...and I have sympathy for a team that will host a regional and super-regional in front of hostile crowds.

I hope A&M wins the whole dame thing. Maybe that's what it will take to motivate our team, which is all I care about.

My Lord, , dear God, sweet Jesus, hotdead!

Don't get carried away.

If our team gets motivated by A&M winning anything, that's when I'll start to worry because I will know we have officially become them.

I was listening to the Hogan Group on 1530 on the way to work this morning, and they were discussing whether or not the A&M athletic program has surpassed the UT athletic program. They all more or less agreed that A&M is closing the gap and has had more success in this particular year but that there is no question that nationally, Texas is the far more respected program. I think that is because Texas doesn't have such a provincial and close-minded athletic director who would sell his soul to merely be better than his rival; not to achieve national prominence, just to be better than his "friends from the state capital."

If DeLoss ever falls victim to that kind of thinking, we are all doomed. I see problems in some of the women's programs, but that's it. Football has made positive changes (new attitudes, new recruiting practices, young, energetic, enthusiastic assistants, etc.). Basketball is making big strides (men's and women's). The men's Olympic sports are in good shape.

Baseball is in a pretty rough patch right now, there's no question. But I don't think all or even most of that is attributable to Augie Garrido. I think scheduling has been much more of a factor than any of us think. Now, perhaps Augie spent more time complaining about it than trying to solve the problem, which he appears to be admitting. But nonetheless, it was still a factor. Texas also has not been treated favorablyor justly by the selection committee in years, and no matter how good you are, you are not going to overcome that all the time. I think it's time to put everything in the past and look foward to an older, more experienced, and still very talented baseball team next year.

Oh, and I hope Rice beats the **** out of A&M. Not because I dislike A&M but because Rice had a far tougher regional, which they dominated, and they deserve to go. A&M doesn't.

Pulled for Rice last year and aim to do the same this year.

I don't know that I will root for Rice to win it all, but I sure as hell will be rooting for them to beat aggy.

No, wait.

I don't want them to beat aggy.

I want them to humiliate aggy. To obligerate aggy. To demoralize aggy.

To fuckstomp aggy into Bolivia.

Umm, Texanne. PLEASE don't hold back so. It's not good for your long term health. JUST SAY what you think.

BTW, while I totally agree w all you said, what do you have against Bolivia. Butch and Sundance didn't really die down there, now did they?

m/

I thought people just faded into Bolivia. I never knew they could be fuckstomped there too. Thanks for the lesson, Texanne!

I'm rooting for Rice, ASU, and then any other non-BCS school to win. I wouldn't be adverse to UNC, but not really rooting for them. So no, you're not a bad person for wanting Rice to beat aggy.

I normally root for the Big XII, even the ags. But I just can't do it this time.

Go Rice.

I hate to inform you Bassale, but ATM not only have several of ATM's programs surpassed UT's, particularly on the women's side, but they have achieved or on the cusp of achieving national prominence: track, soccer and softball. In case you haven't noticed, they have kicked our butts in football two years running to boot. Dodds and Plonsky need to turn up the heat on some of their coaches.

BTW, forgot to add that I hope Rice beats the hell out of ATM.

^^^I might agree, except our women beat aggy 2/3 times they played, once in the Big 21 Championship and the other in the NCAA tourney.

Actually A&M women's soccer team was always better than UT and in the past few years UT has gotten to the same level as A&M. I think it was only 2-3 years ago that UT beat A&M in women's soccer for the first time.

No, but our women's soccer team has had postseason success to go along with beating aggy. Our women made it to the Elite Eight on 06 before losing to defending champs Portland and last year in 07 losing to a very good FSU (I believe it was FSU) team on the road. Looking at those stats, over the past few years I don't think aggy is that much further along than our program.

I'll give you this, aggy. You are definitely a Women's Soccer school.

Except for the last two years.

It's a point I try to make at all of the men's sporting events when things are quiet enough and it's a point I like to make to my aggy friends when they get a bit too out of control.

Good luck this weekend.

To the OTHER inverted Hook 'em school.
