of course he did....they had struck out on their first two picks.....how many did they want to get rejected by. i am sure he was able to make some hefty demands....
Had two straight top 5 defenses at Bama before Saban came in. Great hire for the Ags, and to all those saying "who?" or making fun of it, there were a lot of people on this board that wanted Mack to hire Kines a year ago.
I will say that Sherman has put together a good staff with good(Jordan, Rossley) to great (Turner, Kines) coaches at every position (I am not thrilled about the Wyatt hire).
Much better staff all around than the previous dumba$$
Salty, Southern defensive coaches like Kines and Joe Lee Dunn took the torch from greats like Charlie McClendon and are passing it on to the Muschamps of the college football world.
I think its interesting that Alabama had the best recruiting class in the country but guys like Major and Kines jump ship to get away from that nutjob, Saban.
Props to aggy...they got the Kines hiring right, and he's a significant upgrade over Herring. If they get him the material to work with, aggy linebackers may start looking like the old wrecking crew, instead of the wrecked crew.
I know his coaching record shows he is an excellent defensive coach, the ags lucked out on this one.
I was wondering about Kines' reputation as a recruiter. I kinda got the impression that he was not one of Bama's main recruiters, that he left that to other coaches. I don't think of him as a bad recruiter just not his strong point.
Sherman has put together a very good staff. Even the most optimistic A&M fan will understand that he has a long way to go to get them equal to Texas and OU. Kines will bring the kind of defense the Ags have been missing for a long while. We will have to see after evaluation of the current talent and spring game what kind of approach they will take with this team.
