I'm never suprised when a player who doesnt get a lot of PT leaves the program, but this one strikes me as odd since she went all the way through summer workouts. I do wish her the best of luck moving forward

dang, hate to see one of my favorite players leave. But I'm sure her knee issues played a big part in her decision.

Thanks for the memories, AM and best wishes as you move forward with your life.

Good luck to her. I had a feeling someone (her or Ashley) might be giving up their final year of elgibility due to injuries.

For those who felt we didn't "need" Kaneisha Horn because she might be more of a front court player, this is an example of the coaches knowing more than the fans do as far as depth, health, and "needs" of the program. Injuries often immpact a roster, and you don't always have enough lead-time to add depth.

In reply to: For those who felt we didn't "need" Kaneisha Horn...

Sorry, but I still disagree. We still need outside shooters, whether guards or swing players, way more than we need back up front court players. Look at it this way, if either Enempali or Imani goes out, there's no way a Kaneisha Horn or Anne Marie Hartung can make up the difference. Absolutely no way. At that point Texas is stuck with far less offense inside and we still have no reliable offense outside (judging from last season's guard's stats). It seems a better gamble to me to use the scholarship to find more jump shooters or another star prospect, while hoping our incoming 6-4 and 6-3 frosh centers, plus Mazionyte and Nekia Jones, can provide some help this year. Teams with shooters have far more flexibility in adjusting to injuries. Everything's a gamble, but we need shake and bake scorers more than we need middle of the road inside help. That's what will elevate the team to a championship level. And remember, we would have had Horn for only one or two seasons, not enough time to really help the guard talent arriving in 2014 and 2015. If we want another center or power forward, I'd rather continue looking for a top talent at that position.

You know, Dr. D, you keep stating that our staff should be going after "better" players than Horn; yet, you haven't discussed any of these "better" players, regardless of position. Who are they? Can we gets some names? Are they interested in Texas? Are they eligible to help out this coming season like Kaneisha could have? Is there a realistic chance (and not a dream) that they could end up here?

I mean, it's easy to suggest to the coaching staff (via this anonymous message board) that they should go after "better" players, but it's another thing getting them to sign an LOI with your program.

I might not be happy with every decision Coach Aston and her staff have made thus far, but when it comes to recruiting, I have no issue with how aggressive Coach A has been in trying to recruit players that she believes can help her program, both short term and long term.

Dr. D didn't say "better" players. Instead, said poster suggested players from different positions.

Isn't it great to see Texas utilizing (or attempting to utilize) all available scholarships? Thought so.

Chill out, Moooo. We're talking about personnel choices, not trying to fire the coach. I just happen to think there was a better use for that scholarship. Folks can read my email and make up their own minds. If your favorite baseball team wants to sign a free agent, you have a right to speculate how it might help the team. Same for basketball.
