Per twitter, Alyssa has decommitted from TX, and committed to Baylor.

ASGR#63 Alyssa Dry 5-9 PG 2015 Aledo HS TX has decommitted from Texas & has verbally committed to HC Kim Mulkey & Baylor. AAU TX Preps

I was wondering if there would be a decommitment from one of the 2015 commitments. No way of knowing how things have transpired with Alyssa, but it is odd that you decommit from one school and commit to another on the same day (based on that blurb). Perhaps she visited Baylor this weekend, and decided a change was in her best interest.

She has been committed for quite a while. Wonder how this affects Aledo teammate Justis' verbal commitment, who committed after Dry.

Well, this staff continues to recruit hard and aggressively. Something tells me that they'll fill Dry's slot with a very talented player.

Yes, I can wish Alyssa Dry the best without too much worry for the Longhorns. Ironically, Alyssa could have a better shot at early playing time at Baylor than at Texas as things look right now.

Without taking into account any possible attrition, the 2015-16 roster would like like this:

Seniors:

Celina Rodrigo
Empress Davenport
Imani McGee-Stafford
Brady Sanders (unless she foregoes her 5th year)

Juniors:

Nekia Jones
Kelsey Lang
Lilley Vanderzee
Briana Taylor

Sophs:

Ariel Atkins
Tasia Foman
Diani
Brooke McCarty

Frosh:

Justis
Jordan Hosey
Lashann Higgs

That's 15 scholarship players. So, if Alyssa had stayed in the fold, someone else was going to have to vacate their 'ship before her arrival (or one of the other 2015 verbals).

Plus, we still seem to be recruiting others for the 2015 class; K..A. was in attendance at a Stony Point playoff game last week watching 6'3 Jordan Moore. And, we could still be recruiting 2015 post players like Ashley Hearn and Erin Degrate. If so, that could be a sign that Justis isn't a sure thing.

Lastly, don't discount any JUCO additions.

I'm surprised by this. She has many of her AAU friends/teammates coming to UT (Lang, Jones, Hosey, Higgs, Taylor) and I believe her mother is a Texas Ex. I would guess that Justis Szczepanski may follow soon, she has been starting to follow other schools coaches lately.

Yup, Moooooo nailed it.

If you've noticed Mulkey's recruiting has shifted to FL and the southeast. Makes you wonder if all the DFW Elite mess is catching up to her.

For kicks, I sorted through some of the chronology regarding our verbal commitments for the 2014 & 2015 classes:

08/04/2012: PG/SG Lashann Higgs (2015) commits

09/09/2012: PG/SG Alyssa Dry (2015) commits

09/25/2012: W Jalea Bennett (2014) commits (would later decommit in Spring 2013)

10/16/2012: PF Jordan Hosey (2015) commits

11/12/2012: PG Brooke McCarty (2014) commits

02/20/2013: PF Justis Szcepanski (2015) commits

03/03/2013: PG Tasia Foman (2014) commits

03/03/2013: SG/W Ariel Atkins (2014) commits

Obviously, I don't know for sure which position Dry would have played at Texas. But, after she committed, two 2014 PGs committed (and now signed). So, they would be one class ahead of her.

Higgs can play both guard positions, just like Dry, and they would have been part of the same 2015 recruiting class.

Also, we'd potentially have two senior guards, Celina Rodrigo and Empress Davenport for the 2015-16 season; maybe three if you count Brady, and she uses her 5th season. Seems like Davenport is also playing more at the point this season than she did last season. And, if a JUCO guard is signed this Spring, that would make it three to four senior guards in 2015.

So, as long as Higgs signs in November 2014, and is ready to go in the Fall of 2015, and assuming no injuries or attrition, we will have a good mix of experience, depth, and talent in the backourt.

There's always a chance that Dry is a better long-range shooter than all the others, or that she has some other skill set that we could have used; but, that's neither here nor there as she is moving on. She will get to guard Higgs, McCarty, Foman, and Atkins in conference play for at least 3 years though!

From a coaching perspective, having seen both Dry and Higgs play, there was no shot that she would beat that kid out for PT baring some sort of injury.

This from a twitter update:

#BrandonClayScouting: Evaluated '18 Charli Collier at @cyfairshock camp. Real size, skill & touch. Picked @CoachKarenA & @TexasWBB already.

2018 is, I think, a current 8th grader, which is a long time away. But had this been posted before?

Collier and Shae Routt, both of 2018, have verballed to Texas.

horntooter, it was mentioned on another thread about another highly touted member of the 2018 class, Shae Routt, who has also signed with the Horns. That thread is currently on page 2 of this board. But always great to have additional confirmation!
