Alternative to American Home Shield

So we've had AHS since we bought this house 5 years ago, and they annoy the hell out of me with their ticky-tack rules, mysterious **** that isn't covered, questionable companies they contract, etc. However, our HVAC unit is about 15 years old, and while the local guy who does our maintenance checks on it says it's in relatively good shape right now, that it's probably got no more than 4 years or so on it.

If my HVAC goes out, I want to replace it with something more efficient/modern than an 'updated' version of what I've got, so I know I'd be spending money on top of what AHS reimburses, but I'd rather not be out the entire amount.

My AHS premium is up in the next couple of weeks, and since I'm looking at a fairly healthy cash outlay (way more than the $2,400 that four more years of AHS would be) in the somewhat near future, I'm hesitant to just let it die. My HVAC is the only thing I really want it for.

Does anyone know of any company offering something similar that isn't so damn shady? Ideally I could get coverage for just the HVAC, but even if it were the whole house that would be fine, as long as it wasn't a bunch of knuckleheads...

I don't have an alternative other than just saving the money. I have gone through the same things with warranty companies and it's why I have not had a home warranty in a couple of years. It's just insurance, and it's ****** insurance at that.

AHS is Satan to me. I cannot stand that ******* company, for all the reasons you mentioned and more.

If anyone ever offers you an AHS contract, run away.

Guess I've been lucky. I've never had any problems with AHS. I had my inside and outside AC units replaced, water heater, dishwasher and other things. Everything got replaced or fixed with no questions asked.

AHS once dispatched a contractor to repair my A/C without tools. How he was going to swap out a blower with his bare hands I don't know.

Thankfully I had everything he needed, otherwise it would have been a waste of both of our time.
