So Clinton's comms director is complaining about the press treating her unfairly. The hypocrisy of our politicians and their handlers.. is it just more obvious with the internet?

I wonder if Clinton would have complained about the press treatment (ex Fox News) of her eventual Republican candidate should she have won? The daily coordinated assaults by CNN, ABC, CBS, The Times, The Post etc?

Not likely. She never has before.

Clinton and the press [UPDATED]

Clinton's communications director, Howard Wolfson, delivered some really heated criticism of the press on a conference call just now.

Halperin has audio, and here's a transcript.

I think it is true that every time the Obama campaign in this campaign has attacked Senator Clinton in the worst kind of personal ways, attacked her veracity, attacked her credibility, said that she would say or do anything to get elected, the press has largely applauded him. When we have attempted to make contrasts with Senator Obama, we have been criticized for it.

That is a fact of life that we labor under.

And so I reject the notion that Senator Clinton has been engaged in this sort of seriatim attacks on Senator Obama. I think Senator Obama's entire campaign against Senator Clinton is negative. I think he has run against her as the status quo. He has essentially called her divisive. He has called her untruthful. He has quesitoned her credibility. He has said she will do or say anything to get elected. If that's not negative, I don't know what is.

It is an interesting pivot off the McCain "NYTimes' got it wrong" story that worked to McCain's favor.

The Clinton camp hit the "Press is unfair" narrative hard today. The "Osama in the Obama outfit" picture was an adjunct of that narrative. From what can be pieced together right now, it appears someone suggested proof that the press was unfair can be seen if the press were to get a hold of a "Hillary as Obama" picture - what would they do with it? They/someone suggested the press would roast her over the coals for such a picture, but gives Obama the victim card.

It is what the Clintons do best and it works - most of the time.

They are an amazing political machine.

Frankly, I agree that Obama gets a lot better press than Hillary. She is right. He gets passes where she doesn't. She has just pissed too many people off (and used the press as a whipping boy too many times) for the press or anyone to really care. Obama's "story arc" is still in ascendancy and her story on the decline. Is that fair - no. Is it honest reporting - no. Should we expect more - yes. Do we deserve what we get - absolutely.

Hillary should have forced Obama to take positions a long time ago. Instead she has let him stay with his "Change" message. She is wasting her time attacking the person and it is now too late to attack his positions.

one is male, the other female. Anything else?
