Allergy Doctors and Shots

Anyone have any recommendations about allergy doctors here in town?? I have this feeling that I may have to get the shots.

Has anyone had these? Do they help?

Any info helps. thanks

I like my doc -- T. Vaughan -- but I have my doubts about the usefulness of the shots. I haven't taken them in over a decade and nothing has changed. (My allergeis still suck, but they sucked on the shots, too.)

T.Ray Vaughn is my doc, too. And also like him.

I've been on the shots for almost 8 years. When I first went, my allergies were so bad that I averaged maybe 2-3 hours sleep for about 6 months, because the drainage was so heavy that I was regurgitating it most of the night.

The shots have definitely reduced that. I still have pretty bad allergies, but not like they were before.

That said, I also think a change in diet and lifestyle can be particularly effective in reducing many symptoms, and have also questioned whether I still need to continue getting the shots.

I don't live in Austin so I can't give you a recommendation on a doctor.

However I've been getting a twice yearly allergy shot during the time of the year I am feeling the worst and they do a great job. I just go to an Ear/Nose/Throat guy, and he gives me a steroid shot (usually dexamethasone). It easily gets me through the entire couple of months I feel bad.

He has recommended to me a few times seeing an actual allergist to get tested, but the one-time shot does the trick for me during my problematic times (usually end of September and the end of March).

I don't think they work, from what I've heard. I got tested and I was allergic to literally everything but Allegra seems to help when it's bad. I've heard from others that the shots are a crock as well...

weird. shots help me DRAMATICALLY. I got them for about 8 years from childhood through high school, and after that i was basically cured of allergies for about 5 years, not even a benadryl or allegra needed. I started developing them again just about a year ago, and started back on the shots - they are mostly gone. I take an occasional zyrtec and now get a shot every 3 or 4 weeks. never have itchy nose/itchy watery eyes anymore.

They helped me a ton too. I used to go into antaphylactic shock if I was bitten by a fire ant. This is a huge problem in Texas. I did shots for a couple of years and now I don't almost die when I get bitten.
