all time wins...

so every year i like to see where we start out the season. i am fairly certain that no matter how you look at all time wins we are now in #2, but i see to remember a major discrepancy between sources giving 2 "authoritative" lists. the wikipedia list has us up on #3 Notre Dame by 8 wins going into this season, but that seemed a little high to me. We are now "only" 32 wins behind Michigan for the number 1 spot and we have good distance on Nebraska, Oklahoma and Alabama who are the next closest behind us after Notre Dame:

all time wins

can anyone confirm this source or deny it?

The OU numbers on wikipedia dont add up. I am pretty sure Texas has the best win percentage in the Big XII. (and as I type this I see that further down in article they have it that way so not sure the article is credible). There is a site called College Warehouse someone I am sure has the link that keeps all those records.

With such questions I've always gone to either of:

The Link

(Stassen --- click on "Compare", then "Compute win%", gives a good summary list

The Link

(College Football Data Warehouse ---- click on Division I-A W/L", has other good analyses on MNCs, Bowl Games, etc.)

P.S., a fun thing to research is MNCs at the CFDW. They have an exhaustive listing of all organizations' awards of MNCs (most of which, I think, are contemporary "systems" that go back in time and designate who they think the MNC should have been).

I laboriously went through each year from 2009 back to 1963 (the span of Texas' "recognized" MNCs).

Some curious findings:

Only 3 teams over that period were consensus MNCs among ALL awarders, and I mean ALL awarders:

1971 NU
1995 NU

and

2005 Texas (Yee Haw!!)

Texas ~could~ claim more MNCs (even 2008, go figure, 1983, 1977, etc.) but we stick to either UPI (the split 1970 one) or AP or BCS.

Before TV, when print media dominated rankings without the benefit of seeing all the games on the tube, and when print media was probably essentially Northeastern U.S., Chicago/St. Louis region, and Los Angeles, my opinion is the MNCs of such time and earlier is even MORE questionable.

Just some fun meaningless research on a Saturday morning ---- WAIT, I just heard Erin Andrews' voice in the other room (I mean on the TV), Game Day is on. I'm outta here ----

Hook 'em and BTHOTT!!

thanks blonthang....here is a link from one of your sites (which i used to use but lost when i switched to my new Mac last year)....

winning percentage

and we are number 3....we have a good chance of eclipsing ND's winning percentage fairly soon because we have more wins but also more losses....so if they get a certain number of losses in the next couple of years we could pass them there too...
