I took my Pathfinder into the dealership for the 60,000 mile check up and will again at some point. My brakes aren't making any noises but I have almost 80,000 miles.
Someone with a lot more info will come along soon, like accuratehorn, but replace your brakes when they wear out. Pads wear differently depending on the way you're driving (highway miles don't wear them much, stop and go do a lot) and what they're made of.
If you can trust whomever looked at the car, they should tell you how much life remains, like "looks like about 1/4 original thickness remaining, or "they look pretty thin," you will need pads soon.
80k is a long way to go on brakes, so they couldn't have too much life left. Brake pads have a little tang on them that touches the rotors and makes an irritating squeal to tell you they are at the end of their life.
You can drive until that happens, or you can trust the shop that looks at them-but some will say you need them when there is still a fair amount left.
Shocks either leak the fluid out, and it gets on the shock, which is easy to see, or they gradually wear out, and they get bouncy, and the car kind of wallows on the highway like a ship at sea. If you notice when you tap the brakes that the front end dives down more than it used to, they are getting weaker than they once were.
A lot of places really sell shock replacement, so try to make sure you really need them. Heavier vehicles are harder on them, and driving on bumpy dirt roads is harder on them.
I don't know when Pathfinders typically need shocks, but it may be 100k or so.
It can make a very noticeable difference if the shocks are really bad.
