All quiet on the Longhorn Front

It is interesting that so many programs and coaches are drowning in the college football early season optimism. Even Scott Frost and Nebraska got quite a bit of coverage before last weeks disaster. There was also the typical love fest for most every team and coach in the SEC, and Mac Brown on College Game Day. Even Univ. of Louisiana Lafayette's coach had a really nice write up.

College Game Day picks Oklahoma, ISU and (maybe TCU) to win the BIG 12 and don't mention anything at all about Sark, his staff or the Longhorns (with the mild mention of a returning running back).

I guess ten years of wandering aimlessly hasn't helped but the quiet is eerie.

We deserve what we have (and dont have) and where we are at (and not at). Going to have to climb back up the old fashioned way....and that is still the best/most rewarding way. Prepare for a Mack Brown years-like slow climb (if any) ...not a rocket ship.

Agree but if that were the whole story there would only be 6-10 teams that deserve to be mentioned and frankly the winner of the Pac would not enter the conversation most years. ESPN was hyping North Carolina! I know some of that is everyone loves Mac, but jeez

Yep...if I understand you correctly..we agree.
And the definition of success needs to be clear, too...for the conversation.
I was talking perennial 10+ win seasons, playing in CCGames, appearances in playoffs, may be a NC or at least competing for it.
UT could have been more successful under Mack...but we all enjoyed those 10 win years for the most part and he was a success because of that plus the 1 NC.
Now, I'd say Mack has already been successful at Carolina..with chance for much more success.
How do we define ours moving forward?
As you allude to....success by most measurements is for only about 5-7 teams per year.
How do we measure it over a coaching tenure? Or a 5 or 10 or 20 year span?
I'd say consistent 10 win years with CCG appearances...and wins...beating rivals more often than not, playing in NY6 bowls, and bring in the playoff hunt..with a shot at a title...is success and the goal for the next 5+ years...and I'm ok w baby steps getting there.

A few questions for anyone..
Has Jimbo Fisher been successful?
Matt Campbell?
Gary Patterson?
Ryan Day?
Dan Mullen?
Clay Helton?
Mario Cristobal?
Paul Chryst?

And not just coaches but think programs..
Who is successful today and what is success?

Mack has a QB that could be a top 3 pick in next years draft.
We'll see what happens when they play Clemson.

I like the silence surrounding the Horns.
Just win, baby.
Watch the excitement grow.

On the 'Horns...
To me, that is what made the Mack years and '05 so special...the time, the patience, the growth, the (at times) pain, the waiting, the building, then the payoff.

I agree that we horns are full of optimism. I know i am. 11-1 with the loss being a close game.

Our offense will be humming
Our defense well coached and stout
Sark's offense mind-numbing
Their defense in doubt.

The Robinson duo
will soar like a bird
while the Louisiana foe
will lay like a terd

Card will rise and win
And elevate his game
flinging the pigskin
building his fame

So don't worry my friends
The time is near
when we kick rear ends
while we cheer and drink beer
