Well went to Al T's for the first time a couple weeks ago. It is in Winnie Texas, the one light town just west of Beaumont. It was as billed a place with good food, and lots of critters on the walls. This makes it a great place to stop on a road trip to Louisiana and beyond, with the kiddos. We sat beneath that had to be a 8 or 9 foot gator mounted on the wall. They had a huge snapping turtle, whose head was about the size of a football, among assorted other critters of interest.
The wife and I didn't know what to order so the waitress suggested we split the Al T's special. It was 20 bucks but you got a bit of everything. Salads were decent, first appetizer was a cup of shrimp gumbo, cup of chicken and sausage gumbo, and cup of red beans and rice. The main platter was pretty substantial, huge baked potato, bowl of etouffee, best piece of fried catfish I have ever eaten, two gator tails, fried oysters, fried shrimp, a stuffed crab and a piece of boudain sausage so big it would make John Holmes blush. It's fun to order just to see the look on the wife's face when that giant sausage comes draped over the top of the whole meal.
overall food quality was dang good, as I said that piece of catfish was the best I can ever recall having. The Boudain sausage was also VERY good, besides being an obvious conversation starter. Funniest comment my oldest daughter made was " Daddy, why is every wearing Camouflage?"
Overall a great place to stop for some good food near Beaumont, I will for sure stop there again.
