Man, I wish he wasn't such a ball hog. We really need the likes of Connor, DJ, Chapman, Mason, and Dexter to shoot so much more on this team. We'd be so much better if all of our 20% shooters would shoot more.

Seriously though, he is our best player. Give 90% of DJ's shots to him and we win this game in the regulation by 10.

whereas rick used to really get on aj for only wanting to shoot, i think its clear that he now has a green light whenever he touches it. which is good. he saved us today.

no kidding. If you think our offense is ugly now, imagine it without Mr. Ball hog AJ Abrams! It would be like watching damion james shoot free throws for 40 minutes.

His good shooting saved our bacon today.

This was good game for AJ, but it was still complete BS to ***** at Chapman for a rocket pass to the post at his knees, especially when Abrams makes that pass so infrequently.

I did like the pass to Gary Johnson coming off the screen. I'd like to see more of that, frankly.

AJ has the ability to make his teammates better. He's not utilizing that ability. You guys are pumped about his shooting, but he's not always going to be that hot, and when he isn't his style of play is going to shoot the team out of the game, if he continues with his current mindset.

The person he saved this game from wasn't Connor, Chapman, Mason, or Dexter. It was DJ, who is playing with the same kind of mentality these days that AJ does, only it's worse because DJ is supposedly the point guard.

DJ will start hitting them. AJ went through a cold streak too, and it isn't like all of DJ's shots are stupid, he just isn't hitting them. Let him shoot himself out of it.

I 'd prefer to see more passes to open teammates like AJ's pass to Gary Johnson coming off the screen, and DJ's pass to Johnson off the dribble drive.

Given how good a shooter both AJ and DJ are, it could be argued how stupid any single one of their shots are. The problem is in the aggregate. When they're shooting so much, no one else is touching the ball. Some of those other shots might not have the same degree of difficulty, and would make the team more cohesive and harder to defend --- like they were as a team early in the year.

I don't think "shooting himself out of it" is the answer for a point guard. I don't even think it's the only answer for the 2 guard. I think part of the answer could be to get your teammates more involved.

I do find it weird that we started the game looking for James down low, which he promptly converted, and then we didn't get back to that for another 5 minutes. It seemed like James and Johnson were able to take their guys at will when we actually fed them.

AJ is the only player hitting 50 percent of his shots the last 3 games plus he is 10 of 10 from free throw line, no way UT is 3 and 0 in their last 3 games without his clutch shooting.

then, when we threw away the inbounds pass, and a few other times as well. For quite a while this looked like it was going to be one of those days where we were determined to shoot ourselves in the foot. Fortunately, ISU couldn't shoot anything but their own feet in the OT session.

When Barnes knows he's on, he'll give AJ the green light to shoot because he knows he can dominate a game by himself, however, when his shots aren't falling thats when Barnes wants him to switch mentalities and try to get others involved or try to drive in and get a better shot. Its tough for a guy with a scorers mentality to make a switch like that.

I'm just curious.. Is there anyone on this team you actually like or don't have harsh criticism of, SLX?

Of all the players right now, AJ would be on the bottom of most people's "need to critic" list so I'm curious as to what you think of everyone else.

Chapman and Atchley are nothing more than solid players. They have no post game at all. When the ball goes inside, it should go to James or Johnson. Atchley fooled some people with a few good games, and Chapman had people screaming his name for some reason unknown to me. A few rebounds here and there don't get you all that hype. Pittman should also get more minutes. Maybe Barnes still feels he's not in great enough shape, but he's better than Chapman and Atchley. As long as Texas can't find a consistent post game, DJ and Abrams will take shots that people don't like.

Trilla,
You seem to have a short memory. Atchley was a beast earlier this season.... and Pitman has looked lost in more games than not. Chapman is a true-freshman, so I give him a pass...

Connor quickly lost his "beast" status when enough teams realized he was an outside threat more so than an inside one. Pittman is the only player that gets good low position but he can't do much after that. Johnson is a work in progress but he seems to be coming along nicely. James needs to break out of this mini slump hes in.

If we can get James/Johnson playing up to their potential, I think we'll be fine. The rest of the big guys I've given up on.

stuck at work,

You must have an even shorter memory. In my post I CLEARLY stated that Atchley FOOLED people with a FEW good games to start the year. I wasn't one of them though. That beast status is not earned in a few games. And as you can now see, he hasn't played that way in a while. A beast doesn't just go away like that. And Pittman has looked good down low, much better than Atchley. Teams like aTm will destroy Atchley every time they see him. His defense is weak and he is no threat down low. If his outside shot is falling, he can contribute, if not, get him out of the game. Chapman brings nothing to the table at this time either. He's impatient down low and throws up shots in a hurry. He needs to take his time. And he got to much hype for rebounding also. Johnson is taking his time, but he has been off the mark on some close shots. But as long as he stays patient down low, those shots will start to fall. James needs to post up more also when he has smaller players on him. And when he has a bigger player on him, he needs to face up and make them work to guard him.

stuck at work,

I never said Pittman is the solution, I just said he was better than Atchley. But I do believe Pittman can be the solution as he gets more and more minutes. Barnes has said so himself.

great game AJ. as a poster, ill have to get used to someone coming in and throwing harsh words around after a big win, and a player steps up. also, i would like to see pittman more. Atchley has his moments, but seems weak on the boards. His outside shot has helped, but he needs to get tough inside and dominate.

when CA can get position and get the ball, he actually has a decent ability to score. That hook shot is pretty nasty when he uses it. The problem of course is that he has ZERO ability to establish position.

He's at his best when slashing to the basket, IMO, he's fairly fast/quick for a guy his height, and with all the screening he does - and the amount of overdribbling we do that results in the whole team watching DJ or AJ - he's got plenty of opportunities to make cuts. I don't think anyone would pass him the ball though.

I also wonder we don't bring him farther out from the basket. He's not strong enough to keep a guy on his back in the low block, but if he comes out 5-10 farther towards the wing or the corner, he can get the ball there and then use a spin move to try and get to the hoop.
