Aggy's getting this early recruiting thing down

I just did a quick check of ESPN's recruiting page...our agriculturally-inclined friends have apparently learned a thing or two about early recruiting. Based on the number of commitments they have now after last weekend's junior day over in Bagdad on the Brazos, they've got about half or more of their class for next year filled. That is, unless they go all Houston Nutt on us and over-commit. I'm somewhat impressed...I've actually heard of most of the players committing to 'em.

I'm happy for them and their recruits. They had a good season last year and they're reaping those benefits.

I hope they lose every game next year but I'm happy for'em.

TAMU is in the mix for some actual defensive talent which is amazing. Still can't recruit a WR that isn't a legacy. And for whatever reason, Sherman seems to be unable to land a legit RB stud, though Trey Williams is still in play. We are wastign our time with some kid in Louisiana.

QB is interesting. If you are a true believer in Johnny Manziel, then we aer set at QB for the next 4 years (1 year of Tannehill and 3 of JFF). I am not a true believer. Need to get a legit pro style QB.

Bundy, leave it to you and Prop Joe to bring logic and information to any discussion involving agricultural. It's good to have you back...haven't seen you around here lately.

I do have to admit I'm impressed with the Shermanator's defensive recruiting so far. As for running backs, the ags aren't in bad shape...they're deeper than we are until/if/when Malcolm establishes himself and/or Shead steps up.

Who's the Louisiana running back you guys are after? Ags generally have a little better luck than the Horns at recruiting the bayou state.

1. The Wheeler thing hurts. Maybe we get back him back in for a spring practice and "pimp out" Fuller.

2. It's interesting to see us make a push for Louisiana recruits. Darion Monroe, Lorenzo Phillips, and this RB. I wonder what long term effects this will have.

3. Keeping Williams and Davis away from Aub's is a must. I dont think anyone in the state wants THAT trend to start.

4. Impressed with how well we did with Magee.

5. Who commits next? Thompson, Marshall, ATH out of La, and the Phillips kid.

i agree with bundy pretty much. our inability to land a surefire pro set QB is a bit puzzling. hopefully we can land either knight or davis this year.

right now i'm eagerly waiting to see how brown and cole react to the texas junior day.

Both knight and Davis are dual threat.

I like manziel but I think he projects more as an athelete than a true qb. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

I've been around but the 2011 recruiting was pretty over by March/April.

2012 seems to be a bit different.

There are a handful of guys that if Sherman can land, it would:

(1) shock the hell out of me; and
(2) set up TAMU to be a consistent top 15 team

Cole and Brown from Brenham. Trey Williams. Santos or Jinkens, or a qualified Derek David (perferably the last one, though that player may not exist). Corey Thompson. LaDerrell McNeil.

Then gotta find a legit pro style QB.

Gotta, gotta, gotta find a pro style QB.

My wish list:

Legit Pro style QB
Legit RB (not Ben Malena or Mister Jones or Dennis Smith)
Malcolm Brown
Tim Cole
Qualified Derek David (or Dalton Santos or Peter Jinkens, in that order)
LaDerrel McNeil
Corey Thompson

Don't care about the rest. I am assuming the latest Mathews kid will end up at TAMU.

I can't think of the last time we finished in the top 15, much less on a consistent year in, year out basis.

Gotta crawl before you can walk. Gotta walk before you can run.

We've been sitting in a crap-filled diaper for years, waiting for someone to change us. I'll do back flips if we start having consistent top 15 seasons.

Bundy, curious if you have any information on the Cole/Brown situation. From reports I have read, a&m is still the team to beat, but a recent post says that Cole, coming in this weekend for his 3rd visit, is now favoring Texas, mostly b/c his mom loves Texas. I guess we can take that for what's it's worth, but my question is whether a&m feels like if Cole commits to Texas, if that has any bearing on Brown?

We have all heard that teammates want to play with each other in college, and rarely does it turn out that way, but if the reports are true that Texas now leads for Cole, does Texas have a 'shot in hell' of getting Brown...are they truly a package deal?

Also, are you hearing anything about Cole on your end?

I think TAMU still leads for Cole, but would not be surprised if Mack makes up a lot of ground this weekend and even closes on him. However, I don't think Cole/Brown are a package.

Cole is a damn good player, but there are other LBs out there. Brown is the guy that is difficult to replace this year in Texas.

Sherman, and Fran/RC before him, has failed this test repeatedly. He MUST land these kids if he ever wants to field a team with the talent level anywhere close to what Mack/Stoops have.

That said, I don't think Sherman does land them both. Right now I will take Brown, let Mack get Cole, and would walk away happy.

Sherman needs to bat about 30% on head to heads with Mack, where the kids picks one of the two schools. He doesn't have to win half, just can't go 1 for 17 or whatever he did in 2011.

Thanks. I think Texas is fighting an uphill battle with both, and I am only hoping Texas can get Cole in the fold early to help in its pursuit of Brown. I think this is the only guy that both teams really want and do not have suitable replacements (unless either team goes OOS).

Knight was a nice pick up.

I hope aTm's improved recruiting coupled with TCU getting looks from some good looking prospects negatively impact OU's recruiting in the State of Texas this year and many years to come.

TCU is listed in Gray's top 3, has interest from Griffin Gilbert and the Starts kid from Waco - all kids Texas would like to have.

Much prefer to see OU have to fight UT, aTm, TCU, Tech, etc. instead of just UT for these Texas kids.
