aggy moral victory alert

aggy is circle jerking itself over the infamous UT-UCLA game back in 1997. Watching them get worked up is like watching the scene in the Blues Brothers where the Illinois nazis are falling to their death in the nazi-mobile, and the flunkie tells the leader (to the latter's horror,) "I've always loved you"...you want to feel sorry for the poor bastages, but you just can't help but laugh at their buffoonery.

Let's see, we fired the coach responsible for that debacle over a decade ago, yet they kept the coach who lost to Arky State. That, my friends, is aggy logic at its finest.

I was going to rant a bit about this but hen it occurred to me that it isn't even worth my time to do so. It's Aggies trying to stroke their demoralized egos.

Didn't the ags get a miniature version of the bcs trophy from this year? I thought since Bear Bryant coached at a&m and bama that ags got a share of the title.

I don't get why that game is so famous. I mean yes it was shocking to some at the time...but our team was HORRIBLE why is it so surprising a team that is horrible would get blown out?

And it is hardly like getting blown out was that unusual during the late 80s and early 90s.

I remember a game between aggy and the Corn in which punter Shane Lechler was selected by the guys in the booth as aggy's most outstanding player. I don't remember the score, but how bad must your offense be if your punter is selected as your outstanding player?

you can't be serious. Punter offensive MVP? Of course TCU lost to a punter in that Fiesta Bowl. That is something I don't think I will ever see again. He beat them with punting passing, FG kicking, impressive tackling, far outshining their passer.

that 1998 team had no identity whatsoever. started the season with branndon stewart, he got benched in favor of randy mccown who broke his collar bone against yall, and then branndon came back in during the big 12 championship.

random memory: at one point in the game, branndon tweaked his knee, and shane lechler (who played QB in high school) started warming up on the sidelines as our emergency QB.

yes, shane was the offensive MVP for us a few times.

That Lechler could punt an em-effing pigskin. Part of a good defense is a good punter. TEXAS could use a punter of the caliber of a Lechler, Erxleben, or Goodson again.

Follow up 77-0 with this year's aggy game against a weaker zero-u. Better yet, don't try to engage in a rational discussion with any aggy not named prop joe or bundy.

i would not wish a 77-0 beatdown on my worst enemy.

that game was probably the most painful sports related experience of my life. and that includes pulling my groin playing soccer.

didnt know whether to cry or laugh.

It's always enjoyable to poke fun at Aggies, but Lechler was a game-changer. We've had some good punters, but I can't recall anyone we ever had who could turn the field as consistently as Lechler did. That guy deserved MVP honors more than a few times.
